Mount Dana
Ascent of Mount Dana (West Slope from Tioga Pass, class 1), with Magali Delmas, August 5, 2025.
Timeline:
August 6, 2025. We left the parking lot just outside the Tioga Pass entrance to Yosemite National Park at 9:26 and joined the trail that goes up the West Slope of Mount Dana. We hiked at a slow pace, enjoying the wildflowers, the wildlife (marmots, pikas and chipmunks) and the views. It was a beautiful day with perfect weather and great visibility. We reached the summit of Mount Dana at 12:56 and spent half an hour there eating lunch and enjoying the outstanding views in all directions. There were two persons on the summit at the same time as us, one of whom kindly took photos of the two of us. The descent went faster and we came across multiple parties that were coming up. We stopped at one of the lakes near the trailhead for a foot bath, and reached the car at 15:48. We went to The Mobil for some snacks and drove home to Mammoth.Â
This was Magali's first SPS summit. (6:22 hours elapsed, 5:04 hours moving, 4.69 miles, 3,210 feet of elevation gain).
