I have a task to fix one Acer Aspire 5100 Also known as Acer Aspire 5100-5023. After re-installing Windows XP on the notebook, I've downloaded correct laptop touchpad drivers as provided by acer.com's website here (TouchPad Section).There inside the ZIP, I've run all the 3 installers provided by Touchpad Driver Synaptics 8.2.19.0 .zip (e.g. Setup.exe, Elantech/setup.exe, Synaptics/Setup.exe).

I was told today that the motherboard on my acer 5100 needs to be replaced, its under warrenty by staples, they want me to send it to them for repair. Thats fine, but all they want to do is replace the motherboard and reset the hard drive to factory settings. I have to much business stuff to loose that was not backed up from December. Any chance that the harddrive can be saved or pulled and installed in another computer to retrieve documents? Will replacing motherboard require resetting harddrive? Thanks

Using your very clear instructions I removed the keyboard and reconnected it in case there was a bad connection. That did not fix the problem. Next, using an external keyboard connected to the USB found that everything else works fine with the computer. Is there anything else you would suggest I check before replacing the keybaord?

i have a acer 5100 i was having problems with some of the programmms you suggested a recovery dics. but i found afile containing recovery booster(full back up)
so i click ok. said restart computer. on restarting, it gets as far as windows logo then went back to bootin up,, got to windows logo again

I have two broken acer aspires and now on my third it is not from manufactor issues. It is that my dear wife keeps manageing to drop them and bust the dc power port off. so my question is I have tried to search the part number for my 5100z and come up with nill. The other is an 5610z witch i can get the part but can not solder to save my life. I guess my questions are 1. for the 5610 where can i get an external case for my hard drive? ( bought 1 from R.S. and it was the wrong one.) 2. could you point me in the direction for a new power card for my 5100?

I have an acer 5100 laptop. my son has it overseas and will be sending it home to me because yesterday the screen started flickering. today, he turned it on and the screen is very dim and he can hardly see it at all. The laptop is running fine except for the screen problem. I told him to send it home and I will look at it. If you could give me some ideas of what this could be and where I would look for the problem it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, i have an aspire 5100, core duo 1.6, 2gb ram, the problem is i left the laptop on when i came back the led on the power supply was flashing and the laptop was off, now with a new, correct power supply it shows no sign of power at all, i have stripped it down and checked the power socket on the board and checked for burn marks but nothing!

hey all, i have an aspire 5100 cant set the time clock any more guess the battery needs changing on the mobo like a pc but i been told cant be changed. but sounds like you guys changing lots of things here so any ideas pls or can i change the mobo and upgrade to a dual core to speed things up a bit still on a single core 1.6 ghz

The aspire 5100 laptop wont post, The problem started when I used a toshiba charger (which had the same output 19v _ 3.42A) now the laptop starts for 1 second and then turn itself off after 1 second without posting, can you please give me some advice ?

I would like to know how to replace a defective wiring from the integrated webcam on an acer aspire 5100. It seems like there is a lose connection cause the webcam come on and goes off everytime the screen is tilted.
I am attempting to repair a Aspire 5100 series, model BL51. Here is my current issue: originally the laptop was giving a missing file error when booting windows XP. Decided to dump and reload windows for my friend. However when I got the laptop home I find that it does not detect the Hard Drive or CD-ROM. I pulled the hard drive and Cd-rom both out and plugged them back in thinking maybe my connection got loose with no luck. I plugged the hard drive into a pc (using a cool little adaptor) and can see that the drive is ok. However I still cannot get the laptop to detect the hard drive or cd-rom drive. I can hear the cdrom spin and I think I can hear the hard drive spin. But no luck on detecting either one. Not sure what my next step should be. Is it possibly the motherboard?
