“What we know is a drop, what we don't know is an ocean.”
-Sir Isaac Newton
Vishal was born in Assam, India, in 1996. He obtained his B.Sc. (Hons.) in Chemistry (Gold Medallist) in 2017 and M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry in 2019 from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, India, graduating as a Gold Medallist. He pursued doctoral research at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi under the guidance of Dr. Sudipta Raha Roy, supported by the CSIR Junior Research Fellowship and the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship. His PhD work focused on photochemical synthesis and non-covalent interactions in organic transformations, earning him a PhD in 2024. He is currently a postdoctoral fellow at Hokkaido University, Japan.
Dr. Sudipta Raha Roy was born and brought up in Burdwan, West Bengal. He received his MSc degree in organic chemistry from Visva-Bharati University. In 2012, he earned his PhD from NIPER-Mohali under the supervision of Prof. Asit K. Chakraborti. Subsequently, he moved to IISER-Kolkata as a research associate to work with Prof. Swadhin K. Mandal. Thereafter, Dr. Raha Roy joined the group of Prof. Ilan Marek at Schulich Faculty of Chemistry, Technion, Israel as a PBC postdoctoral fellow. He further continued his postdoctoral studies with Prof. Paolo Melchiorre at ICIQ, Spain as a Marie Curie postdoctoral fellow. In November 2018, Dr. Raha Roy joined the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry. His current research interests concern the discovery and development of sustainable catalysis for small molecule activation.
