ShieldVPN Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 3, 2026

1. Introduction

ShieldVPN ("the Extension") is a browser extension for Google Chrome that configures proxy settings to route browser traffic through user-specified proxy servers. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information.

ShieldVPN does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data or browsing activity.

2. Data We Collect

We collect absolutely no data. Specifically:

- No personal information (name, email, phone, etc.)

- No browsing history or activity

- No IP addresses

- No cookies or tracking identifiers

- No analytics or telemetry data

- No crash reports

3. Data Stored Locally

The Extension stores the following data locally on your device only using Chrome's built-in storage API:

- Server configurations: proxy server addresses, ports, and protocols that you enter manually.

- Proxy credentials: usernames and passwords for proxy authentication, stored in Chrome's session storage and cleared when the browser closes.

- Extension settings: your preferences such as auto-connect, WebRTC protection toggle, and bypass rules.

This data is stored exclusively on your device and is never transmitted to us or any third party.

4. Network Activity

When connected, the Extension configures Chrome to route browser traffic through the proxy server you specify. The Extension itself does not:

- Send any data to our servers (we have no servers)

- Intercept, log, or modify your browsing traffic

- Communicate with any external services

- Phone home or check for updates outside of Chrome Web Store

5. Permissions Explained

The Extension requests the following Chrome permissions, all of which are essential for core functionality:

- proxy: to configure Chrome's proxy settings (core VPN functionality)

- webRequest and webRequestAuthProvider: to handle proxy server authentication when your server requires a username and password

- privacy: to set WebRTC IP handling policy to prevent IP address leaks

- storage: to save your server configurations and settings locally

- alarms: to manage background tasks and connection state monitoring

- host_permissions (all URLs): required by the webRequest API to handle proxy authentication on any website you visit

6. Third Parties

We do not share any data with third parties because we do not collect any data. The Extension contains no third-party SDKs, analytics tools, advertising libraries, or external scripts.

7. Children's Privacy

The Extension does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13 years of age.

8. Security

Proxy credentials are stored in Chrome's session storage, which is automatically cleared when you close the browser. Server configurations are stored using Chrome's sync storage with Chrome's built-in encryption.

9. Changes to This Policy

If we make changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
