How do you see internet access impacting the digital divide and the impact that it has had on learning for students at all economic levels?

Throughout the pandemic, internet access has been one barrier to student success; as an educator, I know the importance of providing ALL students with high-speed internet to lessen the opportunity gap and allow equitable access to learning. PCC has worked to allocate funds to provide students with internet access and computers to continue learning. As a future board member, I will advocate for equitable access and initiatives that directly support students' needs, such as housing, food, technology, etc.

What is your opinion of the role of high stakes standardized testing in the education of our children?

While PCC does not utilize standardize testing on a large scale for things such as enrollment or course placement. Standardize testing is biased continuously, harms students' social-emotional well-being, and widens the opportunity gap.

What steps do you see need to be taken in order for science to be taught as a method of inquiry and deduction, and not just a litany of facts?

Not applicable to role board director at a community college, PCC offers many different inquiry bassed science courses. I believe that schools need to encourage opportunities for students to learn in project bassed model that allows for critical inquiry and relevant real-world learning experiences.
