Kilauea (kiːlɐwˈwɛjə)
Mount Kīlauea is an active shield volcano in the Hawaiian Islands. Historically, it is the most active of the five volcanoes that together make up the Big Island of Hawaii. Kīlauea has a large, newly formed caldera at its summit and two active rift zones. From 2008 to 2018 a crater named Halemaʻumaʻu was formed which houses an active lava lake. The last eruption occurred on September 29, 2021 until today.
