Pico do Fogo (ˈpiku du ˈfoɡu)

Fogo is the highest peak of Cape Verde and West Africa which has a height of almost 3000 m above sea level. Fogo is a stratovolcano consisting of a single volcano, so the island is nearly spherical and about 25 kilometers (16 miles) in diameter. The mountain has a large caldera (about 7-10 km) bounded by steep slopes of near-vertical faults on the north, west and south sides but penetrated to the east where lava can flow to the coast. The slopes of the mountain are used to grow coffee, while the lava is used as building material. Near the peak is a caldera and a small village.
