Outlook Superstars is China's premier English and talent competition, originating from CCTV's "Hope English" program. In 2000, CCTV launched "Outlook English Competition" as China's first nationwide televised English contest. Host Frank Zhao's charismatic presence made him the competition's iconic figure. He and his team later transformed the event into "Outlook Superstars", adding talent performances while maintaining its English-speaking focus.
The competition now spans all Chinese provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions, and the SARs. With seven age divisions from preschool to adult level, it attracts massive participation - Jiangsu Province alone saw 150,000 registrants in 2024, with total historical participation exceeding 100 million. It is China's only English competition endorsed by English Weekly (China's largest English learning newspaper), British Council (IELTS), and ETS China (TOEFL). In 2025, Outlook Superstars joins the World Youth Exchange Program by UCA (United Nations Cultural Association) and C.E.C.A.F.C (China-France Cultural and Artistic Exchange Center), while launching its Hong Kong-Macau division.
The new Hong Kong-Macau division offers local students a broader stage. Winners from each category will represent Hong Kong at the national finals in Beijing in August 2025. This opportunity allows students to compete with China's top talents, enhance their English and performance skills, and gain valuable competition experience while promoting cultural exchange between Hong Kong and mainland youth.
