Eligibility

• Students from local, private, or direct subsidy schools

• Full-time students

• English must be second language

Application deadline

• Individual Registration: 15/2/2025 - 15/4/2025 

• Group Registration (Teacher Nomination): 15/2/2025 - 4/4/2025

Competition Timeline & Venue

• Preliminary Round (Video Submission): 20/4/2025 

• Preliminary Round Results Announcement: 1/5/2025 (Shortlisted candidates will be notified via email and announced on the website.) 

• Final Round: 17/5/2025 at G.T. (Ellen Yeung) College, 10 Ling Kwong Street, Tiu Keng Leng, Tseung Kwan O) 

• National Competition: July 2025 in Beijing (Grand Prize winners from each category will be invited. Specific dates will be announced by the National Organizing Committee.)

Preliminary Round - Uploading Video （3 mins）

• Video submission based on the chosen theme. 

• Secondary Group A (S1-S3)

  • The Unusual Superpower（Imagine a completely new superpower - not the usual ones like flying or mind reading, but something totally unique that no one has thought of before. What would your original superpower be, and how would you use it?）

• Secondary Group B (S4-S6)

  • From Passion to Profession  （What if you could transform your biggest passion into a future career? Think about what truly excites you - whether it's a hobby, interest, or something you're really good at. How could you use that to create a job that not only makes you happy but also makes a difference in the world?） 

Video Requirements: 

• Minimum resolution of 720p, landscape orientation. 

• Upload the video to a video platform (e.g., YouTube or Vimeo) before the deadline （20/4/2025）. 

• Setting the video to "Unlisted" is recommended. Copy and submit the video link. 

• The video must be a single, continuous take. No special effects, fast motion, editing, or post-production are allowed. Submissions that violate this rule will be disqualified. 

• Videos exceeding three minutes will be disqualified. 

• The contestant's full body must be visible throughout the video. Props are permitted. 

• School uniforms are permitted for participants nominated by schools or teachers.

The Finals

Impromptu Speech (Refer to sample questions on the website).

• Participants will randomly select a picture at the beginning of the competition.

• Participants will have 3 minutes to prepare a creative speech or story based on the picture.

• After the preparation time, participants will deliver their speech.

• The time limit for the speech is 60 seconds, indicated by the host.

• Judges will ask questions (potentially multiple) based on the speech content, and participants will have 60 seconds to respond.

Judging Criteria:

• • Content and Creativity: 50%

  • English Expression: 30%

  • Responsiveness and Adaptability: 20%

  • Total Score: 100 points (The final score will be the average of all judges' scores.)

Judging Panel:

• The competition will be judged by experienced English teachers, primary and secondary school principals, English language experts, scholars, and prominent public figures.

Awards:

• Grand Prize, First Prize, Second Prize, and Merit Awards will be presented in each category. Winners will receive certificates.

• Outstanding Teacher Awards will be presented to recognize the dedication of teachers.

Registration Fee

• Individual Registration: HKD 200

• Group Registration (10 or more students): HKD 150 per student

Other Information & Contact Details:

• The organizer reserves the right to use photos and videos of participants for promotional purposes.

• The organizer will protect the privacy of participants and will not disclose personal information to third parties.

• In case of unforeseen circumstances, the organizer reserves the right to modify or cancel the competition.

• The organizer reserves the right to amend these rules at any time and will announce any changes on the official website.

• The Gifted Education Council reserves the right of final decision.

比賽日期和地點

• 初賽：呈交命題演講影片，截止日期：2025年4月20日 

• 初賽結果公布：2025年5月1日 （網站公布晉級名單，晉級決賽者會收到電郵通知）

• 決賽：2025年5月17日 （於優才書院將軍澳校舍舉行）

• 全國賽：2025年7月於北京舉行（個組別「特等獎」得主獲邀出席，具體時間待全國組委公佈）

初賽形式 

• 呈交不多於 3 分鐘的命題演講影片

  • 中學A組（中一至中三）

影片要求：

• 解析度必須至少為720p，橫向影片

• 影片需在呈交限期前上載到影片平台（例如Youtbe或Vimeo），建議設定「不公開」 並複製影片連結

• 影片必須一鏡到底，不能使用任何特效、快鏡、剪接或後期製作，否則不獲評核

• 超越 3 分鐘的內容不獲評核

• 影片需要展示參賽者的全身

• 參賽者在拍攝影片可以使用道具輔助

• 學校團體和老師提名參賽者可以穿著校服

決賽形式

• 本屆決賽於優才（楊殷有娣）書院將軍澳校舍舉行，地址：將軍澳調景嶺嶺光街10號

• 初賽晉級者獲邀出席決賽，不另收費

決賽形式：即興演講 （參閱網站模擬試題）

• 參賽者需要根據題目即興創作一個故事/短講

• 比賽開始時，每位選手將隨機抽取一張圖片

• 選手有3分鐘準備一個富有創意的演講或故事

• 準備時間結束後，選手將上台進行表演

• 主持人會提示開始計時，選手需在60秒內完成表演

• 評判會根據選手內容即時提問（可多於一個問題），選手有60秒回答

評分標準如下：

• 內容及創意：50%

• 英語表達能力：30%

• 對答和應變能力：20%

• 總分為100分

• 決賽得分為所有評判分數之平均分

評判團

• 本比賽委任資深英文老師、中小學校長、英語專家、學者、社會知名人士擔任評委。

獎項設置

• 各組均設有特等獎、一等獎、二等獎及優異獎，獲獎者將獲得獎狀/證書 

• 設有優秀指導老師獎，以表彰老師的辛勤付出

其他注意事項及聯絡資訊

• 主辦方有權使用參賽者的比賽照片和影片，用於宣傳和推廣

• 主辦方會保護參賽者的個人資料，不會洩露給第三方

• 如遇不可抗力因素，主辦方有權更改或取消比賽

• 主辦方保留隨時修改章程的權利，並於官方網站公告
