If you want a dedicated, soft headband that blocks out noise for side sleepers and kids who need to drift off without pressure on their ears, choose Voerou Sleep Headphones; if you need an open-ear device that keeps your child aware of their surroundings while running or playing outside, choose sunshot Ows Open Ear.
• Voerou Sleep Headphones: The biggest strength is its ultra-thin, fabric-based design built specifically for side sleeping and long-duration rest with a 10-hour battery life; the trade-off is that it lacks active noise cancellation and isn't designed for high-intensity outdoor awareness. This pick is for families seeking a comfortable sleep aid or a quiet workout companion for indoor use.
• sunshot Ows Open Ear: The standout feature is its bone conduction technology that leaves the ear canal completely open for situational awareness during movement, paired with a massive 40-hour total playtime including the charging case; the trade-off is the rigid clip-on form factor which may not suit anyone looking for a soft, compressible sleep mask. This pick is for active kids who need to hear traffic, coaches, or parents while listening to music.
The Voerou Sleep Headphones are engineered around a very specific problem: how do you listen to audio without crushing your ears against a pillow? The answer lies in the construction itself. Instead of bulky cups or hard plastic casings, this device uses an ultra-thin speaker measuring only 0.25 inches thick. This allows the headband to lay flat against a mattress without creating uncomfortable pressure points. For parents dealing with children who toss and turn all night, this flexibility is the primary selling point. The material is a soft, breathable polyester blend that absorbs sweat and stretches to fit various head sizes, making it feel more like a wide sports band than a piece of electronic hardware.
When you look at the connectivity, the Voerou utilizes Bluetooth 5.2, offering a stable wireless range up to 45 feet. This means a parent can sit on the couch in the living room while the child sleeps in the bedroom without the signal dropping. The control module sits right in the middle of the forehead area, ensuring that when the child rolls onto their side, the heavy electronics do not dig into their cheek. Inside, the 11mm drivers deliver a sound profile with enhanced bass and stereo separation, which helps keep a child engaged with audiobooks or white noise longer than standard thin speakers might.

This product is ideal for kids who are insomniacs, travelers who nap on planes, or young athletes who want to listen to podcasts during yoga or light jogging. The battery supports up to 10 hours of continuous playback, which covers a full night's sleep plus a morning routine without needing a recharge. However, it is important to note that this device has no active noise control features. If your child needs silence from a noisy environment rather than just background audio, this might not be the solution. Also, because it is a single-piece fabric band, it requires removing the central module before washing, which adds a small step to the laundry process. It is strictly a "wear and listen" device, not a ruggedized tool for rough play.
The sunshot Ows Open Ear represents a different philosophy entirely: safety through awareness. By using air bone conduction technology, these headphones bypass the eardrum and vibrate the skull to transmit sound directly to the inner ear. This leaves the ear canal completely open, meaning a child can listen to music at a safe volume while still hearing cars, bicycles, or other people nearby. The design features flexible silicone hooks that wrap around the ear, keeping the buds securely in place even during vigorous movement. This makes them an excellent choice for kids who are active runners, cyclists, or playground enthusiasts who cannot afford to be isolated from their environment.
The technical specifications here lean heavily into performance and longevity. With Bluetooth 5.4, the connection is faster and more stable than older versions, reducing latency so video games or movies sync perfectly with the audio. The unit includes a 16mm dynamic driver that claims to offer 360-degree Hi-Fi stereo sound, delivering clear vocals and powerful bass despite the open design. Perhaps most impressive for a buyer concerned about how often they need to charge the device is the 40-hour total playtime. This figure includes the usage time from the earbuds themselves (up to 4.5 hours per charge) plus the additional charges provided by the included wireless charging station.
For a family with multiple children or one active kid, this longevity is a game-changer. You can charge the case once, and the kids get days of use before the wall outlet is needed again. The touch controls allow for seamless management of calls and music, and the built-in microphone with noise reduction ensures that voice calls remain crisp even in windy conditions. The IPX7 waterproof rating also suggests resilience against rain or heavy sweat, making it suitable for outdoor adventures year-round. However, the rigid structure of the over-ear hooks means they are not suitable for lying down to sleep; wearing them while side-sleeping would be painful and could damage the internal components. They are strictly for waking hours and physical activity.
• Best for side sleeping comfort → Voerou Sleep Headphones (the 0.25-inch thin profile eliminates pillow pressure).
• Best for situational awareness → sunshot Ows Open Ear (open ear design lets kids hear traffic and surroundings).
• Best for total battery life → sunshot Ows Open Ear (40 hours with case vs. 10 hours standalone for Voerou).
• Best for lightweight portability → Voerou Sleep Headphones (60g weight feels like a simple headband).
• Best for active outdoor use → sunshot Ows Open Ear (IPX7 waterproofing and secure ear hooks prevent loss).
• Best for hands-free calling → Both support calls, but sunshot offers better noise reduction for windy environments.
• Best for easy cleaning → Voerou Sleep Headphones (washable fabric band, though module must be removed).
• Best for modern connectivity → sunshot Ows Open Ear (Bluetooth 5.4 provides lower latency than Voerou's 5.2).
In my opinion, if I had to choose one pair of headphones for a child, I would select the sunshot Ows Open Ear for daily life and the Voerou Sleep Headphones strictly for bedtime. The decision ultimately comes down to what the child needs to accomplish. For a kid who is constantly moving, running, or playing outside, the sunshot is the superior choice because it keeps them safe by leaving their ears open. It offers incredible battery life and durability that a headband simply cannot match. However, for the specific use case of helping a child fall asleep without ear pain, the Voerou is unmatched. Its soft, fabric construction is gentle enough for sensitive heads, and the thin profile ensures they won't wake up with sore ears. Both products serve distinct purposes well, but for general daily utility where safety and battery life matter most, the sunshot wins.
Neither product offers active noise cancellation (ANC) that blocks external sounds electronically. The Voerou relies on passive isolation through its tight fit, while the sunshot is designed to let external sounds in for safety. If you need total silence, neither is the correct choice.
The sunshot Ows Open Ear is far superior for battery longevity, offering a total of 40 hours of playtime with its charging case compared to the Voerou's 10-hour limit. This makes the sunshot much more convenient for active families who don't want to charge devices nightly.
Yes, the fabric headband is washable, but you must remove the central electronic control module before putting it in the washing machine. The sunshot earbuds are water-resistant (IPX7) and can handle sweat or rain, but they should not be submerged or washed with soap.
