Vocal Moves is a singing group for the over 50's. We meet weekly (outwith school holidays) in the hall of Fountainhall at the Stocket Church on Tuesdays, from 1-3 pm.
Ably led by our Musical Director, Euan Wilson, and pianist, Eileen Pike, we are an informal group of like-minded people who enjoy singing. We rehearse for around 40 weeks in the year (out with school holidays) and perform on request at events. All are welcome; there's no audition and no requirement to be able to read music (though many can).
At the moment, we're not taking on new members as we have reached our maximum of 64 members, but people do come and go so it's worth getting in touch if you might be interested in joining.
We can be contacted by email to: vocalmovesaberdeen@gmail.com
Alastair, our previous musical director, ran a Facebook project in June 2023, posting a recording every day of him singing, sometimes solo and often with other local musicians. The aim of the project was to raise funds for Friends of Anchor who support the Anchor Unit in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, the central hub of cancer and haematology care for the North-east of Scotland. The tune for 15th June was Love Me Tender, sung by Alastair, accompanied by the Vocal Moves choir.
More of Alastair's Tunes for June can be viewed here on Facebook.
2023 is the 20th anniversary of the formation of Vocal Moves. It evolved out of a series of workshops for 'over 50 s who enjoy singing', held in the Lemon Tree in August/September 2003, as part of an Arts Festival for Over 50 s. The original leaders of the choir were Val Munro and James Reith and we still sing some of the lovely arrangements composed by James. Here's a copy of the original letter inviting people to join the workshops.
