VMware Horizon View is part of the VMware Horizon 8 platform, which is available in three editions: Standard, Advanced, and Enterprise. Each edition consists of bundles of individual products that are licensed and installed separately. You can choose to deploy Horizon View on-premises with perpetual or subscription licenses, or as a cloud service with Horizon Cloud or Horizon Universal subscriptions. You can also use Horizon View as an add-on to Workspace ONE, VMware's digital workspace platform.
To use VMware Horizon View, you need to obtain a license key from VMware Customer Connect portal. A license key is a unique code that activates your product and enables you to use its features and functionalities. Depending on your edition and license model, you can get a license key for per named user (NU) or per concurrent connection (CCU).
A named user license is for virtual environments with staff that require dedicated access to a virtual machine throughout the day. A concurrent connection license is for virtual environments with a high number of users who share machines throughout the day, such as students and shift workers. A concurrent connection is defined as a powered-on VM and connected virtual desktop session.
To get a VMware Horizon View license key, you need to follow these steps:
Log in to Customer Connect portal with your credentials.
Select Manage Licenses from the Quick Links icon or by selecting Products and Accounts > Accounts > License Keys.
If you are associated with multiple accounts, choose the appropriate account from the dropdown at the top of the page.
Select one license key folder or use the search bar to find your product.
Copy the license key that matches your edition and license model.
To use a VMware Horizon View license key, you need to follow these steps:
Install VMware Horizon View on your server or cloud environment.
Connect to the Horizon View Administrator or Horizon Console using a supported browser such as Internet Explorer.
Log in with a domain administrator username and password.
Select View Configuration > Product Licensing and Usage.
The first and last five characters of the current license key are displayed in the Licensing panel.
To edit the license key, click Edit License, enter the license serial number and click OK.
