Average ping is around 50ms so that might not be an issue. I wasn't sure what would happen though if the connection timed out. Naturally it would take hours and hours to shift that amount of data, would you happen to know if the converter has a timeout setting or will it keep going until complete.

Where can be downloaded "VMware converter Standalone"? When searching by below link, it gives two results. When clicked on "VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 6.2", it brings to another screen with no results.

vmconverter is no longer officially supported - i believe there are many sites hosting this outside of the vmware bubble, but caution is advised with this route. Other options may be to use  StarWind V2V converter this may help.

Hey, I just installed this converter successfully without any issue in my PC with windows 7. What I observed in the log as have user profile problem. Please delete the user profile Admin~1 or rename old and logoff. now login make sure user profile is not show temporary like ADMIN~1. It should be ADMIN. You can try to install vCenter converter.

AlessandroRomeo68 I was able to install converter on a separate install of 7. I'm confused though. I want to take the hard drive of a dead server and convert it to a virtual machine so that I can run it on a replacement server. How do I do that? In vCenter I can only find the options of using the local machine or a remote machine. Keep in mind the server is dead so I cann't run it to access the files that way. I can slave the hard drive as an external drive in an enclosure to access the files. What's the best way to turn it into a vmdk? I know that I can slave the hard drive to the virtual machine but I'd rather convert it.

These conversions were made with vmware converter and all went by with flying colors. Now the issue is that now I'm totally unable to convert anything from the new 6.5 host. This is a must-need-feature as our users constantly move these VM's from the host to their player/workstation infrastructure.

3) Third error is with the newest converter 6.2. This version gives me the "cannot lock disks" error straight up. It doesn't matter, whether I'm using a NFS share or trying to convert to my local disk.

I'm having issues with uninstalling the VMware Converter Standalone agent keeps generating the following error: Could Not Stop Service When I check services, i'm unable to locate the VMWare Converter Standalone Agent service which i'm assuming requires the service to run before uninstallation. I have several times of creating the service but to no avail I keep getting the same error. I followed the following thread in order to create the service: communities.vmware.com/thread/605585 K

I was able to create the service and uninstall using the following command: sc create vmware-converter-agent binPath= "C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware vCenter Converter Standalone\vmware-converter-a.exe" -s "C:\ProgramData\VMware\VMware vCenter Converter Standalone\converter-agent.xml" displayname= "VMware vCenter Standalone Agent" I would proceed to use the same command to create the other 2 services: vmware-converter-server vmware-converter-worker Now that I have uninstalled the client from the machine, I restarted and completed a clean install. Now i'm getting the following error when I attempt to manually start services: Windows could not start the VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Agent service on Local Computer. Error 1053: The Service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

i've attempted creating the service but i'm not sure i'm doing it properly sc screate servicename binPath= "point to exe file in standalone converter agent" After rebooting and attempting uninstall it continues to throw an error message. Can you give me the proper command that explicitly points to the correct directory?

So I've been tasked with converting our physical SQL server (with many databases referencing about 5 other virtual servers) I have never converted a SQL server box and am looking for some Best Practices or known issues to watch out for. I've been reading about what to do, what NOT to do, etc. I am planning on using the VMware Converter Standalone to perform the conversion. I know I need to stop all SQL services, or pause the databases. But what is the best way, step-by-step, to do this? Should I use the "Synchronize" function in the converter? Do I need to restore each database from a latest backup to the converted VM? Or can I simply stop services, convert it then bring it online? Are there queries I need to run on the databases after the conversion? I am not a DBA.... !

A general system error occurred: Not supported version: Unsupported version URI "urn:converter/7.0" while parsing SOAP body at line 6, column 0 while parsing SOAP envelope at line 2, column 0 while parsing HTTP request before method was determined at line 1, column 0.

Is it possible that an older version of the converter or its agent is installed inside the VM? If yes, uninstall it. The VMware Converter installs its own agent automatically if you connect to the machine with administrator credentials.

But if you prefer converter approach I would strongly recommend you using a 3rd party V2V converter by StarWind instead of VMwares. It's free and helped me a lot of times working with all the most commonly used VM formats: VMDK, VHD/VHDX, StarWind native IMG, QCOW. It works both ways, converting from and to any selected format, thus having better functionality than similar converters.

What I'm stuck on is the second step, "Specify Destination". This topic is discussed in an earlier thread, but I don't understand the answer. VMware converter asks me for the VMware Infrastructure server details, but the Server drop down list box is empty with no choices. I don't see why I need a server since I just want to generate a single file, but the software doesn't allow me to leave this blank. I tried running the stand along converter on a windows machine on the same network (pointing to the linux laptop to convert) and I get the same behavior with this drop box being empty.

Do I need to also download VMware ESXi or Server to generate a virtual image of my laptop using VMware converter standalone? I read the documentation for those products briefly and they seem to be unrelated to the simple task that I'm trying to do which is to hot-clone a linux laptop. If I get one of these other programs, do they then need to run on another machine on the local network? I tried installing the VMware server on another computer on my local network, but it told me I had to first uninstall the player, so I didn't go any further.

I should add that when I enter the info for the vmware server (ip, username, password), I get the message "unable to recognize the server type or version when connecting to the host" even though I can successfully connect under the main "Adminstration ... connect to another server"

That doesn't work. The Server drop down list box is empty with no choices. I can't type other or Other, the next button is grayed. I also tried installing the vmware server on another machine on the same network, but same problem.

VMware Converter (VMware standalone converter), now known as VMware vCenter converter Standalone, is a tool used in VMware vSphere environments to convert physical and virtual machines to VMware virtual machines, using the VMware Converter for P2V process. You can also use VMware Converter to perform V2V (virtual to virtual) conversions to convert virtual machines running in one type of virtual environment to another virtual machine. For the purposes of the post, we will refer to it simply as VMware Converter.

Different VMware converter ports are required for communication, depending on the conversion of a Windows or Linux host. Also, compared to the ports required for vmware converter p2v, V2V operations require fewer ports.

Somewhat related question -- If VMware Converter 4 is totally and utterly separate from VMware Converter Enterprise, what good does the Enterprise converter plugin I already have installed do me? Seems kind of wasted/useless to me at the moment.

I'm trying to copy a live Centos 5 system to a new ESX environment in order to upgrade it. I'm using ESXi 6.0.0 and the standalone converter 6.0.0 build=2716716. I create the job to copy the system, and it runs a while and then fails with the message A General System error occurred: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.

I've turned the firewall off on the Windows machine (and on the Mac system the windows VM is running on, it's all on a internal network anyway, but I was able to successfully use that combination earlier with the converter on a different ESX and Linux server to migrate). Unfortunately this current copy error message lacks any specific information to run down the problem. 2351a5e196
