So far, we have learned a lot of information from reading Maben's letter. We know that Maben is traveling from Rockbridge, VA to California in 1849 looking to find GOLD! He is married to Sarah and they have one son. Although he is not traveling with his family, he is traveling with a group of men. The journey from Virginia to California is a long one and he is bound to face many obstacles.
