Principal Investigator
Vlad is an Assistant Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience at Temple University. He is interested in understanding the mechanisms underlying early developing cognitive and perceptual abilities. His work takes a multi-modal approach drawing on tools from psychology, neuroscience, and artificial intelligence. Before joining Temple as faculty, Vlad earned a PhD from Emory University and was a postdoctoral fellow at Carnegie Mellon and the University of Pennsylvania. Vlad was born in Kiev, Ukraine and was raised just outside Philadelphia, where he obtained a BA right here at Temple.
Graduate Student
Allan is a PhD student in the in the Vision Learning and Development Lab. He earned his B.A. in Psychology and Neuroscience from Butler University and his M.Sc in Cognitive Neuroscience from Keele University in the U.K. At Keele he examined the neural representations underlying visual perception, attention, and figure-ground organization. At Temple he is interested in using computational modeling (e.g., machine learning) in conjunction with various neuroscience techniques (e.g., EEG, fMRI) to gain a deeper understanding of how cognitive processes, such as visual perception, occur in the brain.
Graduate Student
Xinyi is a PhD student in the Vision Learning and Development Lab. She is interested in the neural and cognitive mechanisms underlying early development. Xinyi earned her B.S. in Psychology from East China Normal University in 2021 and completed her M.S. at Beijing Normal University, where she investigated how infant brain characteristics relate to long-term cognitive outcomes. At Temple, she will explore the neurocognitive foundations of early visual learning using awake infant neuroimaging and computational modeling methods.
Lab Manager
Olivia is the Lab Manager at the Vision, Learning, and Development Lab at Temple University. She earned her B.A. in Cognitive Science and Computer Science from the University of Pennsylvania, where she completed an honors thesis investigating how children use speaker knowledge to learn novel subordinate and basic-level nouns. Olivia is broadly interested in the intersection of developmental psychology and computational modeling. She was born and raised in Philadelphia, where she enjoys running, hiking, and fostering dogs.
Masters Student
Anna is a Masters student in Neuroscience in the Vision Learning and Development Lab at Temple University. She earned her B.Sc. in Psychology from Maastricht University in the Netherlands, where her bachelor’s thesis examined face recognition in autistic children. At Temple, Anna is interested in exploring how visual processing and learning mechanisms contribute to and influence cognitive development. Beyond research, Anna is motivated by a broader goal of improving early identification and support for children with neurodevelopmental differences.
Research Assistant
Anastasiia Osadchuk is a Psychology major and Cognitive Neuroscience minor at Temple University. Her research interests focus on perception, learning, and development, and she works with both preschool children and adults in behavioral research settings. Anastasiia is especially interested in how early-life biological and environmental factors can shape brain function and influence vulnerability or resilience to mental illness later in life. Her long-term goal is to pursue a PhD and contribute to research that connects brain mechanisms to real-world outcomes and supports more precise, safer approaches to mental health treatment.
Research Assistant
Shujo is a Neuroscience major with a Mathematics minor at Temple University. His research interests focus on understanding the cognitive mechanisms underlying learning and decision-making. He is particularly interested in applying computational approaches, including machine learning, to behavioral and neuroimaging data in order to better understand complex cognitive processes. More broadly, he is interested in integrating neuroscience with data science and computational modeling to study cognition.
Assistant Pawfessor
Mobi completed his dogtoral degree at Camp Bow Wow in Pittsburgh where he (unsuccessfully) studied inhibitory control. He then went on to a postdog position at Carnegie Mellon University where his work centered on active motor prediction of small object trajectories (frisbees). He is currently on sabbatical conducting field research (hunting squirrels).
