Effective Date: [2026-02-27]
Welcome to Stella. This Privacy Policy explains how Stella ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, processes, shares, and protects your information in connection with the Stella mobile application (the "App") made available on Google Play, and any related services (collectively, the "Services").
At Stella, your privacy is our priority. We are committed to safeguarding your personal data and ensuring full transparency in our data practices. We process your personal information solely to provide, maintain, and improve the Services, and only after obtaining your explicit consent in accordance with the terms outlined below. By using the App, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
1. Scope of This Policy
This Privacy Policy applies to all information collected through your use of the App and our Services. It explains:
●The types of personal information we collect and the circumstances of collection;
●How and why we use your information;
●The legal basis for processing your data (where applicable);
●When and with whom we may share your data;
●Your rights regarding your personal information and how to exercise them;
●The measures we take to secure your data;
●How we handle data related to children;
●Updates to this Privacy Policy;
●How to contact us with privacy-related questions.
2. Acceptance and Updates to This Policy
By downloading, registering for, or using the App, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by this Privacy Policy. This Privacy Policy is an integral part of our Terms of Service; if you do not agree to this Policy, please do not use the App.
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our data practices, legal or regulatory requirements, or improvements to the Services. When we make material changes, we will: (a) update the "Effective Date" at the top of this Policy; (b) notify you via in-app notification, email (if you provided an email address), or other reasonable means as required by applicable law; and (c) obtain your explicit consent for any material changes that require it under applicable law (e.g., changes to the purpose or scope of data processing).
Your continued use of the Services after the effective date of the updated Privacy Policy constitutes your acceptance of the changes. If you do not agree to the updated Policy, you must immediately cease using the App and uninstall it from your device.
3. Information We Collect
We collect only the information necessary to provide, maintain, and improve the Services. The data we collect falls into the following categories:
A. Information You Provide Directly
When you use certain features of the App, you may choose to provide us with information directly. This includes:
●Photos and Videos: We collect photos and videos you capture within the App or upload from your device’s photo library. Access to your device’s camera and photo library is required to use these features, and we will request your explicit consent before accessing these permissions. We only access and process the specific files you select or capture.
●Facial Features Data: To provide AI-driven features (e.g., face-swapping), we analyze facial points and features within the photos you upload. Important Note: This analysis is used exclusively for the technical execution of the App’s creative features. We do not use this data to identify individual users, nor do we collect "biometric identifiers" or "biometric information" as defined by applicable privacy laws (e.g., CCPA/CPRA, GDPR).
●Third-Party Account Information: If you log in to the App using a third-party account (e.g., Google, Meta), we may collect basic account information from the third party (e.g., username, email address, public profile details) to complete the authentication process. We will only collect this information with your explicit permission, and we comply with the third party’s data sharing policies (see Section 9 for more details).
B. Usage and Device Information (Automatically Collected)
When you access or use the App, we automatically collect certain information about your interaction with the Services and your device. This helps us optimize performance, troubleshoot issues, and improve the user experience. This information includes:
●Activity Data: Details about your use of the App, such as features accessed, session duration, number of sessions, and actions taken (e.g., initiating a face-swapping edit).
●Device Identifiers: Device-specific information, including your device’s model, operating system (OS) version, IP address, browser type (if applicable), language settings, and unique device identifiers (e.g., Android Advertising ID, subject to your consent).
●Advertising and Tracking Data: Subject to your "Allow Tracking" consent (as required by Google Play and applicable law), we may collect the Android Advertising ID to understand traffic sources, measure marketing effectiveness, and deliver personalized advertisements (where applicable).
●Network and Performance Data: Information about your wireless or mobile network, time zone, battery level, and App performance metrics (e.g., load times, crash reports) to ensure the App functions optimally.
C. Cookies and Similar Technologies
Like many mobile applications and online services, we use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies (e.g., SDKs) to enhance your experience with the App. These technologies help us:
●Authentication: Use session cookies to verify your identity during your use of the App. Session cookies are temporary and expire when you close the App.
●Consent Management: Track your consent preferences for non-essential cookies or tracking technologies (where required by law).
●Functionality: Use local storage to remember your preferences (e.g., language settings, recent edits) and provide a seamless experience across sessions.
We will obtain your explicit consent before using non-essential cookies or tracking technologies, as required by applicable law and Google Play policies.
4. How We Use Your Information
We use your information solely for the purposes of providing, maintaining, and improving the Services, and we do not use your data for any unrelated purposes without your explicit consent. Our specific uses include:
A. Provide and Maintain the Services
We use your photos, videos, and facial features data (collectively, "User Content") exclusively to deliver the App’s core features (e.g., face-swapping, creative filters). This processing is necessary to fulfill the purpose for which you provided the information (i.e., to use the requested feature).
B. Prohibition on Face Recognition and Identification
We are committed to protecting your privacy. We do not use your User Content for face recognition, biometric identification, or authentication. Specifically:
●We do not use technologies designed to uniquely identify individual users from facial data;
●We do not create or store biometric profiles of users;
●Your facial features data is processed only to apply the visual effects you request, and is not used for any other purpose.
C. Store and Display User Content
To provide a seamless experience, we process your User Content as follows:
●Storage: User Content is primarily stored locally on your device. It may be temporarily stored on our secure cloud servers only during your active editing session to enable real-time processing. Upon completion of your editing session (e.g., when you save the edit or close the feature), the User Content is immediately and permanently deleted from our servers.
●Display: Your User Content is displayed exclusively to you within the App. We do not share your User Content publicly or with unauthorized third parties.
●Consent: By submitting User Content for processing (e.g., clicking "Swap" or "Process"), you provide your explicit consent for the collection and temporary storage of that content as described in this Policy.
D. Improve and Optimize the Services
We use anonymous, aggregated usage and device information (e.g., which features are most used, common device models) to improve the App’s performance, fix bugs, and develop new features that align with user needs. This data is de-identified and cannot be linked to individual users.
E. Marketing and Advertising (With Consent)
With your explicit consent, we may use advertising identifiers (e.g., Android Advertising ID) and aggregated usage data to deliver personalized advertisements within the App or on third-party platforms, and to measure the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns. You may revoke this consent at any time (see Section 7 for details).
F. Changes to Processing Purposes
If we intend to use your personal information for any purpose not disclosed in this Privacy Policy, we will notify you in advance and obtain your explicit consent (where required by applicable law, e.g., GDPR, CCPA/CPRA) before initiating such processing.
5. How We Share Your Information
We respect your privacy and do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for commercial purposes. We only share your information in the limited circumstances described below, and we ensure that any third party receiving your data complies with this Privacy Policy and applicable laws:
A. Essential Service Providers
We may share your information with trusted third-party service providers who assist us in delivering the Services (e.g., secure cloud storage providers, analytics tools, payment processors). These providers are only authorized to process your data for the specific purposes we specify, and they are required to maintain appropriate security measures to protect your data. We do not share your facial features data, photos, or videos with any third parties except for essential cloud storage providers (and only temporarily, as described in Section 4C).
B. No AI Training with User Data
We do not use your personal data, photos, videos, or facial features to train, improve, or develop artificial intelligence (AI) models (either our own or third-party models). Your User Content is used solely to generate the output you request within the App.
C. Business Transfers
In the event of a merger, acquisition, reorganization, sale of assets, or bankruptcy involving Stella, your personal information may be transferred as part of the transaction. In such cases, we will: (a) notify you before your data is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy; and (b) require the successor entity to maintain data protection standards at least as strict as those in this Policy.
D. Legal and Regulatory Compliance
We may disclose your information if we have a good-faith belief that such disclosure is necessary to: (a) comply with applicable laws, regulations, or legal processes (e.g., subpoenas, court orders); (b) protect the safety, rights, or property of our users, the public, or Stella; (c) detect, prevent, or address fraud, security breaches, or violations of our Terms of Service.
E. Google Play-Related Disclosures
We comply with Google Play’s data sharing requirements. We may share certain non-personal, aggregated data with Google (e.g., App performance metrics) to comply with Google Play’s policies and improve the App’s availability on the platform. We do not share your personal information with Google except as required by Google Play’s terms or with your explicit consent.
6. Data Storage and Security
We retain your data only for the minimum period necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, and we take robust measures to protect your data from unauthorized access, disclosure, or misuse.
A. Data Retention Periods
●Photos, Videos, and Facial Features Data: Stored locally on your device until you delete the files or uninstall the App. Temporarily stored on our servers only during your active editing session (deleted immediately after the session ends).
●Usage and Device Information: Retained in aggregated, de-identified form for as long as necessary to improve the Services. Personalized usage data (linked to your device or account) is retained for up to 12 months after your last use of the App, unless you request deletion earlier.
●Third-Party Account Information: Retained only for as long as your account is active or as necessary to maintain the Services. Deleted when you delete your account or revoke access to the third-party account.
B. Data Security Measures
We implement technical, organizational, and administrative security measures to protect your data, including:
●Encryption of data in transit (e.g., via SSL/TLS) and at rest (for data stored on our servers);
●Access controls limiting access to personal data to authorized personnel only;
●Regular security audits and assessments of our systems and service providers;
●Legally binding data processing agreements with all third-party service providers, requiring them to maintain appropriate security measures;
●Employee training on data protection and compliance with internal privacy policies.
While we take all reasonable steps to protect your data, no security measure is completely foolproof. You acknowledge that the transmission of data over the internet or via mobile networks is inherently risky, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your Rights Regarding Your Personal Information
You have certain rights regarding your personal information under applicable privacy laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, Android’s privacy requirements). We make it easy for you to exercise these rights:
●Right to Access: You may request access to the personal data we process about you, including details about the purpose of processing, retention periods, and third parties with whom your data is shared.
●Right to Data Portability: You may request a copy of your personal data in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format. Where applicable, you may also request that we transmit this data directly to another data controller.
●Right to Rectification: You may request correction of any inaccurate or incomplete personal data we hold about you.
●Right to Erasure ("Right to Be Forgotten"): You may request deletion of your personal data if: (a) the data is no longer necessary for the purpose it was collected; (b) you withdraw your consent; (c) processing is unlawful; or (d) deletion is required by applicable law. You can delete locally stored photos/videos directly from your device or by uninstalling the App.
●Right to Restrict Processing: You may request that we restrict processing of your data in certain circumstances (e.g., if you contest the accuracy of the data, or if processing is unlawful but you oppose erasure).
●Right to Withdraw Consent: You may withdraw your consent to data processing at any time (e.g., consent for camera/photo library access, tracking for advertising). Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing conducted before withdrawal. To withdraw consent, you can adjust your device permissions (via Google Play or your device’s settings) or contact us (see Section 13).
●Right to Object to Processing: You may object to processing of your data if it is based on our legitimate interests or for direct marketing purposes. We will cease processing unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds that override your rights, or processing is necessary for legal claims.
●Right to Opt Out of Marketing: You have the unconditional right to opt out of direct marketing at any time. To opt out, you can use the "unsubscribe" link in marketing communications or contact us.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the information in Section 13. We will respond to your request within the timeframes required by applicable law (e.g., 30 days under CCPA/CPRA, 1 month under GDPR).
8. UGC Safety and AI Content Restrictions
A.Prohibited Content Categories
In accordance with Google Play’s Developer Policies, we maintain a strict Zero-Tolerance Policy regarding harmful content. Users are prohibited from using the App’s AI tools to generate, upload, or share:
●Sexually Explicit Content: This includes pornography, depictions of sexual acts, and graphic nudity.
●Sexually Suggestive Content: Content that is intended to be sexually provocative or sensational, including AI-generated "NSFW" imagery.
●Non-Consensual Sexual Content: The use of AI to create sexually explicit depictions of real individuals (Deepfakes) is strictly forbidden.
●Child Endangerment: We prohibit any content that sexualizes or exploits minors. Any such content will be removed immediately and reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).
●Violence and Hate Speech: Content that promotes self-harm, extreme violence, or harassment based on race, religion, gender, or other protected characteristics.
B. Content Moderation and Monitoring
To ensure a safe user experience, we employ a multi-layered moderation strategy:
●Automated Filtering: Our AI models utilize safety guardrails to proactively block prohibited text prompts and scan generated video outputs for objectionable visual patterns.
●Manual Review: We reserve the right to manually review content flagged by our automated systems or by other users.
C. Enforcement and Account Termination
●Content Removal: Any content identified as violating these policies will be deleted immediately.
●Account Sanctions: Users who violate these terms may face temporary suspension or permanent account termination without notice.
9. Payment Information
For in-app purchases, the handling of payment information (e.g., credit card details) is solely the responsibility of Google Play’s payment processing service. Google maintains industry-leading security measures to protect your payment data, and we do not access, store, or process any of your payment information at any time. All in-app purchases are governed by Google Play’s Terms of Service and payment policies.
10. Third-Party Account Login
If you log in to the App using a third-party account (e.g., Google, Meta), we follow these practices:
●Data Collection: We request only the minimum necessary information from the third party (e.g., username, email address) to complete the login process. We will obtain your explicit consent before accessing any third-party account information.
●Data Sharing: To authenticate your login, we may share your unique App ID, access token, and referral URL with the third party, in compliance with their data sharing policies.
●Control Over Data: You may revoke our access to your third-party account at any time by adjusting the permissions in your third-party account settings. This will immediately terminate any further data sharing between the third party and Stella.
11. Children’s Privacy
Protecting the privacy of children is a top priority. We comply with Google Play’s Children’s Online Privacy Protection Rule (COPPA) and other applicable laws governing children’s data:
A. Age Restrictions
●The App is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 13. Any access or use by children under 13 is strictly prohibited and violates our Terms of Service and this Privacy Policy.
●For users in the European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA), the App is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 16, unless the prior explicit consent of a parent or legal guardian is obtained (in compliance with GDPR).
●If you are between 13 and 17 (or 16 and 17 for EU/EEA users), you must obtain the explicit consent of your parent or legal guardian before using the App or providing any personal information. We may request documentation verifying parental/guardian consent and may terminate your access if valid consent is not provided within 3 business days of our request.
B. Accidental Collection of Children’s Data
If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal data from a child under the applicable age limit, we will immediately take steps to permanently delete the data from our systems and notify the relevant authorities (as required by law).
12. Third-Party Services and Links
The App may contain links to third-party websites or integrate with third-party services (e.g., Google Play, social media platforms). These third parties have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their data practices. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you use.
We use third-party SDKs (e.g., analytics tools, advertising platforms) to enhance the App’s functionality. These SDKs may collect usage and device information in accordance with their own privacy policies, and we ensure that any such SDKs comply with Google Play’s privacy requirements and our data protection standards. We will disclose the list of third-party SDKs used in the App upon request.
