Quantum mechanics is offering a new paradigm to technology. Quantum effects like coherence and entanglement provide exceptional capability enhancement to computing, sensing, and metrology etc.
The focus of our lab is to harness coherence and entanglement for real life applications. Currently, we are developing a quantum enhanced photocell based on GaN quantum dots and a quantum random number generator based on spontaneous emission in diode lasers.
In addition, we are investigating the role of these quantum effects in biological systems - avian magnetoreception and photosynthetic apparatus of bacteria. The aim is to mimic highly efficience biological processes using engineered systems.
