About the podcast: On VisAbility (with an "A"!), we tell stories of people lifting others up and making the world more inclusive of people of all abilities. We will share stories about:

  1. Disabilities and Beyond: People living with a disabilty or other condition that may make it harder to do certain things
  2. Thriving and Acceptance: People experiencing inclusion, joy at being accepted for who they are and what they CAN do
  3. Flipping The Script: People lifting others up in an unexpected way

We will also share personal and family stories (we have our share of visible and invisible struggles!), insights, maybe have some guests on the show, and have lots of fun along the way.

Other important things:

Our podcast will not have cussing or drinking, but may include mature themes. (Rated PG).

We will strive to use "people first" language.

We believe not all disabilities are visible, and will Include physical, mental and behavioral disabilities.

About Us: Mary Beth and James are a brother and sister team who share a passion for making the world a better place. They were raised as military brats (emphasis on the brats!) and lived 8 places in their first 18 years, including the Philippines. They are very thankful for their supportive parents and extended family, whom they hope enjoy the show!

James: James lives in Lexington, South Carolina. He loves watching wrestling, listening to heavy metal, and painting. He has cerebral palsy due to a birth injury, and thanks to a network of supportive people and his own initiative and creativity, now lives on his own and has two jobs that he enjoys! (You'll notice Mary Beth calls him Andy because that's what he was called growing up and old habits die hard!)

Mary Beth: Mary Beth is James' big sister. She has served in the Peace Corps in West Africa and has master's degrees in public health and social work. She lives in Richmond, Virginia. She's married to Roy, a medical librarian, and they have two awesome kids and two dogs. She currently works in the field of HIV prevention but has also worked in maternal and child health. Mary Beth loves trying new art projects, watching Stranger Things and visiting new places.

By showing how people are supporting others, being accepting, and promoting inclusivity, they hope to inspire others to do it too!
