For students that require pre-teaching, re-teaching, and study guides, utilizing video is an awesome way for students to access the material without relying on their literacy skills which may be weak. With creative use of google slides and a screencasting tool, teachers can create videos of their lectures, worksheets, or study guides and make them accessible at the start of the unit for pre-teaching, as a study guide before an assessment, or before 2nd chance learning in the form of re-teaching.
PRE-TEACHING
In this example, the teacher uses Google Slides and a screen-casting tool to pre-teach the content that will be explored in the next unit.
How to:
1) Create a slide-show in google slides
2) Choose your screencasting tool and record your explanation while displaying the slideshow
3) Make your video accessible to the student to review before beginning the unit
STUDY GUIDE
In this example, the teacher utilizes the study guide that was handed out to the class as a review activity. However, instead of requiring the student to try and study from the written study guide through reading, which may be a weakness for a special education student, the student will have a multi-sensory experience by hearing and seeing the content. In addition, the student can replay the video as much as needed to help master the material.
How to:
1) Complete study guide with correct answers
2) Scan study guide into a PDF
3) Use the snipping tool to chunk the questions and post in a google slide
4) Choose your screencasting tool and record your explanations of the questions
5) Make your video accessible to the student before the test so that they can utilize the video as a video study guide
RE-TEACHING
In this example the teacher uses the Prezi Presentation that was used as part of a teacher-centered lecture during instruction and turns it into a video for re-teaching because the student did not demonstrate mastery of the material and will need to be retaught the material. The video serves as a great way to do this because the student will not be required to come to clinic to receive the re-teaching.
How To:
1) Access your original notes/presentation from the original instruction.
2) Choose your favorite screencasting tool and record your instruction.
3) Make your video accessible for the student to review before the make up assessment.
