We've a long journey ahead today, 15 hours 30 minutes to Capetown, South Africa!
How many countries will we cross to get there?
Before we get off the plane, lets get some basic facts about this country:
South Africa has so many different things to see and do. Look closer at the map, what are you most excited about? Is it the history, the geography, the wildlife or the culture? Let's begin!
Table mountain towers over the city of Cape Town.
You will be using this link for Table Mountain, The Garden Route and Kruger National Park.
Click the button below, watch the intro videos and then select "Table Mountain".
We watched the film Invictus last year. It was set in South Africa and the President Nelson Mandela worked with the captain of the rugby team to bring unity to the country through rugby. Nelson Mandela spent 27 years imprisoned in Robben Island. First of all here's two videos about Nelson Mandela.
We're going to travel west along the coast and the famous Garden Route.

It is Safari time! We will be dividing up into Jeeps and going through the biggest and best African safari. When you safari in Africa everyone talks about "The Big 5". You know your safari has been successful if you've spotting the Big 5: lions, leopards, elephants, African buffalo and rhinoceroses.
When I travelled through South Africa many years ago, I didn't do a safari in Kruger National Park because it is really, really expensive!
It is a bucket list destination for most people or a place they go on honeymoon. But today, you are going to safari through Kruger National Park for free!
There are many tribes in South Africa. Each area or village has a different tribe. Each tribe has their own language, customs and traditions. The biggest tribe is the Zulu Tribe.
When I travelled South Africa, I was lucky to go to a headman or chief's dinner. We ate with the tribe and asked them about their life and we watched some dancing and singing. Let's finish our day in South Africa watching some Zulu singing and dancing from a primary school (watch the teachers dancing!) and from an adult group.
It's time to go home but we can bring some South Africa with us in our food. I enjoyed most of the foods on the list below but my favourite was the Braai. It is the South African barbecue. I was shown how to make a lovely desert on it:
Get a banana.
Cut a slit in it (with the skin still on).
Put some chocolate in the slit.
Wrap the banana in tin foil.
Put on the braai.
After about 10 mins take it off and take the banana out of its skin.
Serve with ice-cream.
Delicious!
