Session Description
The persistence of individual, institutional, and systemic racism in the US education system necessitates the advancement of antiracist education. To support this priority, teacher education programs must prepare antiracist practitioners. In this presentation, I will present a study that explored how a one-year masters-level teacher residency program prepares antiracist secondary-level urban educators, in an engaging and interactive presentation. Participants will examine a conceptual framework for antiracist teacher preparation and explore the application of the conceptual framework in their practice.
Key Takeaways
Attendees will examine a conceptual framework for antiracist teacher preparation.
Attendees will explore the application of the conceptual framework in their practice.
Session Description
We spend a lot of time working to make education “better” but we almost never stop to deeply consider what “better” might mean. My intention is to create an experience of shared joy in learning, a feeling that people will want to recreate in their own teaching and learning spaces. People will have an opportunity to personally reflect, work in small groups or individually, and share their thoughts using various channels. Transforming education requires we transform how we feel during learning, and my hope is that we will share a compelling, satisfying learning experience.
Key Takeaways
In this session, participants are invited to:
Remember what it feels like to feel and extend care.
Share joyful learning experiences.
Explore boundaries as the foundation necessary for care.
Session Description
We will use an Interactive Icebreaker to help warm up the space, later on we will use Crowdsource Session Topics in Real-Time (polling to understand what they most want to know about), and finally room for discussion and a word cloud close out slide using Wooclap.
Key Takeaways
Empowering Students as Active Contributors Reflect on strategies to shift the focus from faculty-led PowerPoint presentations to student-generated content, fostering deeper engagement and critical thinking.
Maximizing Faculty Efficiency Discover time-saving techniques for faculty that streamline preparation while maintaining high-quality learning experiences.
Building Collaborative Learning Environments Explore methods to create a classroom dynamic where students take ownership of their learning, promoting collaboration and shared responsibility.
Session Description
How can we use evaluation as a tool for advocacy, inclusion, and resistance in educational development? This session explores how values-aligned evaluation practices can help communicate the impact of faculty development and OER initiatives, especially in institutions facing political and cultural pressure. Participants will engage in reflective and practical activities to identify what stories their data can tell—and how those stories can support just, inclusive, and sustainable work in education.
Key Takeaways
After attending this session, participants will be able to:
Define what values-aligned evaluation means in their context.
Identify opportunities to embed inclusive evaluation practices in their programs.
Explore strategies for communicating evaluation results that support advocacy.
Connect with others committed to resisting harmful narratives through evidence-based storytelling.
