I am a development economist with most of my research centering around questions in public economics, labor economics, and health economics with a particular interest in local governance, public service delivery, and women's career choices. I use experimental and quasi-experimental methods often in combination with behavioral measures and work jointly with NGOs and government partners.
I work as a Senior Researcher (with tenure) in the Poverty and Global Health Research Group at the Chr. Michelsen Institute (CMI) in Bergen and contribute to the work at the Development Learning Lab (DLL), an initiative by CMI, the Norwegian School of Economics and the University of Bergen. I provide evidence-based advice to development organizations and co-lead learning networks as well as impact evaluation workshops for development practitioners.
I am an Affiliate Researcher at the Inclusion Economics India Centre and was a PI at the Excellence Cluster "The Politics of Inequality" at the University of Konstanz (2021-2025) responsible for two large-scale projects on career guidance in India and the targeting of social pensions in Bangladesh.
My research has been funded by the Research Council of Norway, German Science Foundation through the Excellence Strategy, International Growth Centre, Swiss National Science Foundation, and the Thurgau Institute of Economics.
Apart from research, I am also passionate about teaching and capacity building in organizations. In my current role, I lead and co-lead workshops on a regular basis both targeting researchers as well as practitioners.
