VIN Decoder for Estimators — Privacy Policy Last updated: [today's date] This extension decodes vehicle VINs and shows simplified fluid and drivetrain information for body shop and insurance estimators.

DATA STORED LOCALLY The extension stores the following data only in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local). It never leaves your device through any server controlled by the developer: - Saved fluid specifications you create or generate - Decode history (last 25 VINs) - Your AI provider settings, including any API key you enter

DATA SENT TO THIRD PARTIES - VIN decoding: When you decode a VIN, it is sent to the U.S. NHTSA public vPIC API (vpic.nhtsa.dot.gov), a free government service. - AI features (optional, off by default): If you enter your own OpenAI or Anthropic API key in Settings, decoded vehicle metadata (year, make, model, engine — not the VIN) is sent from your browser directly to that provider using your key. The developer has no access.

WHAT THE EXTENSION DOES NOT DO - No analytics, tracking, advertising, or third-party scripts. - No collection or transmission of data to any developer-controlled server. - No sale, sharing, or transfer of user data to anyone. - No access to browser history, bookmarks, passwords, or autofill.

USER CONTROL You can clear decode history from the History tab, remove individual database entries from the Fluids DB tab, or remove the extension to delete all stored data. AI features only activate when you provide an API key.
