Mayor Announces Deficiency-Free State Audit of the Village of Rutland

RUTLAND, Ohio — A recently completed regular financial audit of the Village of Rutland has yielded no findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, or questioned costs.

The audit, completed by BHM CPA Group, Inc., and certified by the Office of the Ohio Auditor of State, is part of a regular biannual audit of the Village's administrative, clerical and financial management of public monies and records.

"I am pleased to announce, for the first time in more than 20 years, the Village of Rutland has achieved a deficiency-free audit, one that is free of findings for recovery, material citations and weaknesses, significant deficiencies and questioned costs," comments Mayor Eblin. "The result of this audit reflects the Village's ongoing commitment to the management of taxpayer dollars with the utmost professionalism and integrity."

In addition to no findings of deficiencies, Mayor Eblin notes the audit found all prior findings against the Village have been corrected, with the exception of the depositing of Mayor's Court receipts into the general fund before the first Monday of each month.

"Records indicate all monies collected through Mayor’s Court were paid into the Village treasury as required by law," comments Mayor Eblin. "The issue lies with transferring these monies from the Mayor's Court Fund to the General Fund before the first Monday of each month, a deadline that is sometimes impractical due to the reconciliation process."

Mayor Eblin explains new procedures will be established to ensure a more expedited reconciliation process to meet the statutory requirement.

"The Village Council and I congratulate and commend Village Clerk-Fiscal Officer Delaynie Potts for her enduring efforts in continuing to steer the Village's financial ship in the right direction," comments Mayor Eblin. "A clean audit is a reflection of Potts' ongoing commitment to the stewardship of the management of taxpayer dollars."
