VIETNAM SUMMER 1967 ORAL HISTORY PROJECT
WHAT WERE YOU DOING DURING
VIETNAM SUMMER 1967?
Were you on the national staff, the steering committee, or working on one of the special projects? Were you a field staff member or helping organize peace groups on the local level? If you were a student or community member that interacted with Vietnam Summer programs or canvassing, we also want to hear from YOU!
The Vietnam Summer 1967 Oral History Project is collecting anti-war organizing stories leading up to the sixtieth anniversary of the campaign. Launched in collaboration with the American Friends Service Committee Archives, this interview initiative seeks to document how a broad-based coalition like Vietnam Summer was able to unify social justice movements and communities across the country to engage the public in critical conversations about the escalating U.S. war in Vietnam.
Interviews will ask questions related to how you became involved in the campaign and how organizing took place within your community. They will also explore the dynamics of the coalition and the lasting impact of Vietnam Summer on the peace movement. This project is especially interested in documenting ways in which the community organizing strategies utilized by this campaign may be relevant in our present political moment.
