# Privacy Policy - Video Quality Enhancer
Last Updated: October 2026
## 1. Overview & Commitment to Privacy
Video Quality Enhancer ("we", "our", or "the extension") is committed to protecting your privacy. We believe in complete transparency and strict data minimization. This extension is designed to run 100% locally on your device without collecting, transmitting, or selling any personal data, video content, or browsing history.
---
## 2. What Permissions Are Used and Why?
The extension requests only the minimum set of permissions necessary to deliver its core functionality:
### A. "storage" Permission
• Why it is needed:
The `storage` permission allows the extension to save your preferences locally using Chrome's built-in `chrome.storage.sync` API.
• What is stored:
- Your chosen quality preset (e.g., "4K Clarity", "Cinema HDR", "Anime Vivid").
- Slider adjustment values (Sharpness, Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Warmth).
- Your site-specific preferences (the list of domain names where you chose to disable the enhancer).
• Data handling:
All configuration data is stored locally in your browser (or synced securely through your personal Google account if Chrome Sync is enabled on your device). We do not operate external databases, and we never access or read this data.
### B. "<all_urls>" (Host Permissions)
• Why it is needed:
Video streams are hosted across thousands of websites (such as YouTube, Netflix, Twitch, Disney+, Vimeo, educational portals, and social video platforms). In order to detect HTML5 `<video>` tags and apply GPU-accelerated CSS and SVG convolution enhancement filters, the extension's content script must be permitted to execute on these web pages.
• What it does NOT do:
- It does NOT monitor, record, or transmit your web browsing habits.
- It does NOT read page text, credentials, passwords, or personal messages.
- It does NOT intercept network requests or download video streams.
- Its sole interaction with the web page is applying graphical filter styles (`filter: url(...) brightness(...) contrast(...)`) to HTML5 `<video>` elements.
---
## 3. Are All These Permissions Really Necessary?
Yes, but ONLY these two. We adhere strictly to the Chrome Web Store Principle of Least Privilege:
• Why `<all_urls>` cannot be omitted:
If we only used `activeTab`, the extension would only enhance a video after you manually click the toolbar icon on every single page visit or refresh. Because users expect video enhancement to apply automatically when watching shows, movies, and streams across multiple tabs and sites, host permission is required to automatically attach visual filters to `<video>` elements.
• What we intentionally DO NOT request:
Many competing extensions request excessive, high-risk permissions such as:
- ❌ `webRequest` or `webRequestBlocking` (which can inspect or modify network traffic) — NOT USED.
- ❌ `cookies` (which can read session authentication) — NOT USED.
- ❌ `identity` (which can access user Google account details) — NOT USED.
- ❌ `management` (which can inspect your other installed extensions) — NOT USED.
- ❌ `offscreen` (which can run hidden background scripts) — NOT USED.
- ❌ `externally_connectable` / external tracking endpoints (like ipinfo or SaaS analytics) — NOT USED.
By omitting all unnecessary permissions, Video Quality Enhancer remains completely safe, lightweight, fast, and risk-free.

## 4. Third-Party Services and Data Sharing
• Zero Third-Party Trackers: We do not integrate Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Sentry, or any third-party tracking scripts.
• No External Servers: The extension does not connect to any remote server or external API. It works completely offline.
• No Sale of Data: We do not collect, monetize, or sell user data under any circumstances.
---
## 5. Security of Your Information
Because no data is ever transmitted across the Internet by this extension, there is zero risk of data breaches, server-side leaks, or unauthorized access from third parties. All operational code runs locally in your browser's sandboxed environment.
---
## 6. Children's Privacy
The extension does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13.
---
## 7. Changes to this Policy
If any future update introduces new features that affect how settings are saved, this document will be updated accordingly. The extension will never alter its core guarantee of zero personal data collection.
