General Information
Biography (Education & Work Experience)
Victor Junqiu WEI is currently working as an assistant professor in School of Computer Science and Engineering (SCSE), Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), Macau. He obtained his bachelor degree from Nanjing University and PhD degree from Department of Computer Science and Engineering, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology under supervision of Prof. Raymond Chi-Wing Wong. From March 2018 to May 2018, he was a visiting student of Prof. Hanan Samet (Fellow of ACM & IEEE) and Prof. David Mount (Fellow of ACM) at University of Maryland in US. He had close collaborations with Prof. Raymond Chi-Wing Wong (Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong), Prof. Hanan Samet (University of Maryland at College Park, U.S., Fellow of ACM & IEEE), Prof. David Mount (University of Maryland at College Park, U.S., Fellow of ACM), Prof. Cheng Long (Nanyang Technological University, Singapore), Prof. Di Jiang (Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong), Prof. Jason Chen Zhang (Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong), Prof. Bo Tang (Southern University of Science and Technology, China), Prof. Haiqin Yang (Shenzhen Technology University, China), Prof. Weibin Wu (Sun Yat Sen University, China), Prof. Weicheng Wang (Beijing Institutie of Technology (Zhuhai), China), and Prof. Tian Bai (Jilin University, China). He also has several years' working experience in the world-famous research labs in the AI industry including Baidu natural language processing (NLP) group, AI group of WeBank and Noah's Ark Lab of Huawei.
Research Statement
His research interests span spatial-temporal data management (Published in SIGMOD 2017, TKDE 2019, SIGMOD 2020, ICDE 2020, TODS 2022, SIGMOD 2023, TKDE 2024, SIGMOD 2026), AI for database and data management (ICDM 2019, COLING 2024, ICDE 2025, TKDE 2025), natural language processing and its applications in database management (AAAI 2021, ACL 2022, EMNLP 2022, ICSE 2023, TKDE 2024, KDD 2025, EMNLP 2025). His vision is to optimize the data management and data mining applications with advanced data structures, machine learning and deep learning algorithms. He served as a program committee member of many top conferences such as ICDE, ICML, KDD, WWW, CIKM, SIGSPATIAL, COLM, ACL, NAACL, and EMNLP, etc. He has won a lot of honors and awards including the best paper candidate of SIGMOD 2020.
