About me


I am an Associate Professor at the Center for Demographic, Urban and Environmental Studies (CEDUA) at El Colegio de Mexico (COLMEX). I hold a PhD in Population Studies by CEDUA-COLMEX. During my doctoral studies, I was a visiting student at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Austria and at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR) in Germany. I also hold a MEng in Operational Research and a BSc in Actuarial Sciences, both from UNAM. I joined the faculty of El Colegio de México in 2012, after being an Assistant Professor at the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO).

My main research interests are mathematical demography, applied demography, population estimates and forecasting, and the related population policies. I have been advisor and consultant on demographic methods for the United Nations Population Found, the Mexican National Population Council (CONAPO for its name in Spanish) where I participated in the last official population projections’ team, the Mexican Ministry of Social Development, the Interamerican Development Bank and consulting firms, banks and insurance companies. I am a National Researcher level 2 by the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores (SNI-CONACyT).

I am the author of the book Projections and Population Policies in Mexico [Proyecciones y Políticas de Población en México] (El Colegio de México, 2014), and the co-author of the official population projections of Mexico for CONAPO published in: Partida Bush, Virgilio & VM García Guerrero (2018). Population projections of Mexico and its States, 2016-2050 [Proyecciones de la Población de México y sus Entidades Federativas 2016-2050], Consejo Nacional de Población, Fondo de Población de Naciones Unidas.
