About

I am a research fellow based in the Centre for Statistics in Ecology, the Environment and Conservation (SEEC) at the University of Cape Town.

Since my childhood days I have always been fascinated with maps, and with the natural world. My research has afforded me the opportunity to combine these two passions. Broadly speaking, I am interested in understanding why species occur where they do, and being able to predict and monitor their changing distributions. This research is important for advancing our understanding of the natural world, but also for very practical purposes in that global climate change, land-use change, and human-assisted dispersal of species is causing unprecedented changes in the extents and distributions of species.

I have a particular interest in:

  • Uncovering the drivers of grass species' distributions
  • Remote sensing of vegetation patterns
  • Species distribution modelling
  • Invasion ecology
