The July triathlon offers super sprint, sprint, and Olympic distances. The swim venue is the City of Flagstaff Reservoir where temperatures hover around 68-71 degrees F. The sprint bike course is primarily flat, but the Olympic course has a bit of climbing. The run course is an out and back on paved roads along Lake Mary. In the past, local artist, Marvin Toya, has designed the most incredible, hand-carved sculptures for the overall winners.
The race will serve as the 2024 USAT Kansas State Championship, so the top 35% of finishers in the short course and Olympic distance will qualify for USAT Nationals. For the swim, athletes will have the option of a mass start (50 per group) or a time-trial start. The bike is hilly, but inside the park on a completely closed course. The run takes athletes on to the paved trails within the park.
The Clermont Draft Legal Challenge actually consists of 14 separate races including National Development races, a NCAA collegiate female race, a mixed relay, youth F1 events, and an age-group draft-legal race. The venue is Lake Louisa State Park and the entire course is closed to traffic. The race begins with an exciting mass start from the beach. The bike ranges between 2-4 laps depending on race type and includes rolling hills. The run is between 1-2 laps.
The mixed relay is a great way to conclude the weekend where one woman and one man team up to complete a mini-triathlon consisting of a 375-meter swim, 5K bike, and 1.5K run. A prize purse is expected for this exciting event!
