Basic Visual Voicemail shows a list of your voicemails. You can choose which to play, delete or reply to with a call or text. Premium Visual Voicemail and Voicemail to Text for iPhone transcribe the first 45 seconds of your voicemails so you can read them.

See our Voicemail Comparison Chart and device-specific guides for details.

iPhone has built-in Visual Voicemail. Refer to Apple's Visual Voicemail help page.

Note: All Verizon mobile phones still have basic (audio) voicemail. You can always dial *86 from your mobile device to hear and manage voicemails.

If you have multiple phones on your account, choose the best voicemail service for each line in My Verizon.

Note: Depending on your plan, you may incur additional data charges with Visual Voicemail. Download and use will be billed on a per-megabyte basis, or according to any data package you have. Mobile to mobile minutes do not apply. Standard rates apply to any calls, emails or messages initiated from Visual Voicemail.

To set up Visual Voicemail:

iPhone: Open the Phone app, choose Voicemail and Set Up Now. If you are switching to an iPhone and already had voicemail set up on your line, you may be directed to the automated voicemail system. You can also dial *86 to complete set up.

When you change from Visual Voicemail back to Basic Voicemail, your (audio) messages stay in your voice mailbox. Your standard greetings will be saved, but you may lose your custom greetings or other features not supported by your new mailbox type. See the Voicemail Comparison Chart for the features of each type of service.

Note: On iPhone the Visual Voicemail function is built into the Phone app and cannot be removed. However, you can always dial *86 if you want to listen to, rather than see, your voicemail.

To use Visual Voicemail on your iPhone, open the Phone app and choose Voicemail to view a list of your voicemails. You can play, delete and manage them in any order. You may see a transcription of the first 45 seconds of each message. Visit Apple's Voicemail help for more information.

To use Visual Voicemail on your Android phone, open the Visual Voicemail app to view a list of your voicemails. You can play, delete and manage them in any order. If you would like to be able to read a transcription of each message on Android, subscribe to Premium Visual Voicemail.

Yes, in most cases the Visual Voicemail inbox on your device and your voice mailbox on our network will be synchronized, because Visual Voicemail simply displays what is in your audio voicemail box.

However, on Android devices, Visual Voicemail doesn't work if Wi-Fi is the only connection available. If Verizon data coverage isn't available, updates you make on your device offline (e.g., erase messages) may not update on your basic voicemail mailbox until data coverage becomes available (and vice versa).

The Visual Voicemail app on Android devices doesn't work on Wi-Fi. It requires the mobile data network. Make sure Cellular Data is turned on in your device settings, and that you have a network connection. If you can't access the Verizon network, you can still play and manage your (audio only) voicemail messages by phone:

Got a message from VZW yesterday on my voicemail app that as part of my plan, I could get basic visual voicemail from free. They also offered a 'premium" which would cost me a monthy charge. The app clearly said it was no cost as part of my plan. So I signed up for the basic. Then I could not get it for my wife's phone (same phone, same plan). So I trotted into a VerizonWireless store. The clerk said I had signed up for a trial of visual voicemail and that it would cost me once the trial was over. I had her set me back to the basic, basic, no features voicemail. I just wish Verizon had been up front with what they were offering. Kind of a bait and switch as far as I am concerned. Has anyone else been caught in this little trap?

I rec'd the same message. After I read the agreement, I chose to decline. Now I get the same question everyday saying that I need to complete the process to get Visual Voicemail. No matter how many times I decline, everytime I have voicemail, the same message pops up to complete the process. I am stuck in a virtual loop. I can't stop the messages. Will continue to search for a way to stop these annoying reminders and finally get the message to Verizon that I don't want the feature.

Bear in mind, that this Voicemail capacity was there, and I was still able to receive additional Voicemails, and either keep them, or delete them as necessary - all, functionality that was included in this Voicemail Service. I also understand that the Capacity was 40 Saved voicemails before the Inbox was full, and I needed to delete.

Pressing the Icon on Tuesday evening, caused a TapJack of my Voicemail, initiating a migration of my voicemail service to Verizon's Visual Voicemail Premium Service.I did not want this, nor have I wanted the Visual Voicemail service for the three years it has been available. My older voicemail service was fine.

After re-saving all of these, I was still unable to access the two new Voicemails. I immediately called Customer Service, and found that they were closed, and I would have to call back tomorrow. Wednesday Morning, I called and talked to Level 1 Support, in two separate calls, and they claimed to have reverted my Voicemail back to my original settings. They did NOT. I called back, and was escalated to Level 2. I spoke with that Technician, and he saw what was happening, but said that he could see how to change the settings back, but it was unable to be accessed by him. He asked me to try to delete some voicemails, to see if I could get the level down to around 20, which I did, by deleting 5 non-essential Voicemails. This only got me down to 22 though. The Options to him were still "greyed out", and He referred me to Level 3 Support. I also got a verification Text Message regarding the punt to Level 3.

The following morning, Thursday, I received a Text that the Problem, for my voicemail Provisioning had been resolved, on issue NRB000008298104, and to try to access my Voicemail to test it. I called the Voicemail, and received the same message that my Inbox was full, and that I needed to delete my Messages.

I'm struggling with the same issue. So if I understand you correctly Ann154, if my new unlocked phone doesn't specifically have "Verizon" imprinted on the back, I have no way to download or use visual voicemail?

I bought an unlocked phone (which is turning out to be a cardinal sin, I guess) that doesn't have Verizon software pre-installed, and am using it to replace an older Verizon phone. And of course the default Samsung visual voicemail won't connect / set up right, and while every other Verizon app is available on Google Play, etc, the Visual Voicemail app is being jealously guarded like it's a precious proprietary file that the world does not deserve to have.

Can anybody offer any help on how I could get the Basic Visual Voicemail app installed and working? I had the basic visual voicemail app working fine on my previous LG G4, but that was a Verizon branded phone. Currently I have to call my number or *86, but I really would like that visual listing of voicemails that was in the Visual Voicemail app.

Oldphonenewphone, we realize how important having the correct type of voicemail for your needs is. Unfortunately as a few community members have stated the follow features are not supported with non-Verizon Unlocked phones: Visual Voicemail of any kind, LTE Video Calling, Enhanced Address Book, WiFi calling, Family Base, Family Locator, VZW Cloud.

Is this new? My Nexus 5x that I bought direct from Google worked just fine, and my new Motorola x4 that I bought new on Amazon had been working until about a week ago... But now doesn't support basic visual voicemail?

Your support is here! I use the basic visual voicemail myself and think it's great. It actually has instructions during the . Yes, it is free. This link should help you: -mail/basic-visual-voice-mail/. We will be here if there is more that you need.

I'd be happy to clarify something that may benefit you. It is true that you can try the premium visual voicemail for 30 days and then be charged. However, the basic version of visual voicemail is free and offered to you at the end of the trial. I use it myself and most core options that make it great are still available. Please let us know if there is more that you need.

If you are like me you tried everything that Verizon FAQs, videos, and forums suggested to get your voicemail working but nothing worked. I just kept getting a message that said something went wrong and contact customer service.

I recently purchased a Pixel 6, and transferred out the SIM card from an iPhone X. To date, I have been unable to activate visual voicemail on my device. An associate at the Verizon store made a number of attempts to correct the problem, including: 1) enabling visual voicemail, 2) upgrading to a 5G SIM card, 3) switching my prepaid plan to the more expensive plan (pay at the end of the cycle) before quickly reverting to the original, and...4) turning the phone and the voicemail app off and back on again.
