Verbree International (VI) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) international non-governmental organization. VI’s exempt purpose is to aid the impoverished in developing countries by promoting sustainable livelihoods and teaching the ability to cope with changing conditions principally through agricultural development. VI’s secondary purpose is to improve awareness of the situations of the impoverished around the world.
VI conducts research and education projects in agriculture and nutrition principally in dryland countries. They also provide consulting services to foreign and domestic organizations doing similar work.
VI was founded by David and Cheryl Verbree in June 2004. During their previous development work in Afghanistan and Zambia, the Verbrees saw first hand the particular needs of the impoverished. They decided to leave their former careers and pursue advanced studies in fields where they could do the most to alleviate the suffering of the impoverished. David received a M.S. in Agronomy and a Ph.D. in Plant Breeding and Cheryl received a Ph.D. in Soil Science. Together, they continue to serve VI alongside their other occupations as they use their expertise to address issues of food security in developing countries.
