Imagine being stuck on the payment gateway because your bank or card are temporarily unavailable. This is a horrible situation that you have surely encountered at some point in your life. 

Then, how would you respond? Will you ask someone back home to make the payment on your behalf over the phone? Or would you simply take out your smartphone at that precise moment and utilize your Venmo login information to complete a Venmo payment? 

Even if your bank hasn't lived up to your expectations, the second option sounds like a fairly smart move. It is true that you can use a single Venmo ID to pay at different retail locations, make payments using payment gateways, receive money as a seller or merchant, and much more. 

Beyond these basic benefits, there are several more reasons to make Venmo your financial friend. For more information, see the section that follows. 

Using Venmo, you may ask and receive money from your friends. In essence, Venmo allows you to repay peers for loans you have made in a quick and social way without having to deal with currency. For example:

• Splitting a lunch bill

• Paying your friend half of a cab fare

• Sending your roommate your half of the rent

Venmo should not be used to pay for goods and services (such as concert tickets, gadgets, watches, footwear, or other commodities), deposits for rental properties, or dog walking if you don't know the person. Learn more about using Venmo to buy and trade commodities, services, and items.

You can make bank transfers by connecting Venmo to your bank account. Bank transfers completed before 7 PM EST will typically be available in your account the following business day, excluding weekends and bank holidays. There may be a lag while transfers are investigated, or money may be removed or blocked from your Venmo account. You may get more information about transfer times in our help post.

If you would like to dispute any Venmo transactions that appear on your bank or credit card statement, or if you still have questions, please contact your bank or credit card company directly.

In addition to the following requirements for using Venmo, there may be additional qualifying requirements for the Venmo Mastercard Debit Card and Teen Account, among other products and services:

You must be physically located in the United States 

• Your cell phone needs to be based in the United States and able to send and receive text messages using short codes. There cannot be another Venmo account with this number on file.

• You have to be at least eighteen (18 years old, or the majority age in your state).

• Update to at least version 7.38.2 of the Venmo app.

By adding funds to your account, you can move money received from Venmo to a bank account or debit card. You may also want to add a bank account, debit card, or credit card so that payments can be made.

To begin with, make sure you meet all the requirements to open a Venmo account. Then, follow the instructions below to sign up for Venmo:

1. Download one of our mobile apps: iOS & Android (Venmo does not have a Windows app)

2. Open the Venmo app

3. Select your preferred way of registration and generate a strong password (ideally ranging from 8 to 20 characters, with a minimum of one digit or symbol, such as (!@#$%)). 

4. Verify your phone number and email address 

5. Add and verify your bank account

You can check the Venmo app to see if your card has a fee or not:

1. Go to the Me tab

2. Go to the Wallet section

3. Tap on the card under "Banks and cards"

Under the card, you'll find information regarding possible fees.

Some credit card providers charge cash advance fees (which can include a higher APR and/or an additional dollar amount or percent rate) in addition to other possible cash advance service costs if you use your credit card to pay buddies on Venmo. IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT OPENING A NEW CARD ACCOUNT:
In order to help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering, all financial institutions are mandated by federal legislation to collect, authenticate, and document data identifying every person who opens a Card Account.

What this means to you:
When you open a Card Account, we'll need your name, address, birthdate, and other details to identify you. You may also be asked to provide a copy of your driver's license or other formal identity documents. 

Please provide your home address when applying for the card instead of your work address or P.O. Box so that we can verify your identity. 

Transactions with Venmo Mastercard Debit Cards are subject to extra limitations.

• $2,999.99 per purchase limit


• $3000.00 daily purchase limit (resets at 12am CT)

• $7000.00 weekly purchase limit

• ATM withdrawals, over the counter withdrawals, and cash back daily limit: $1,000.00 (this limit resets daily at 12:00 AM CST)

• Transaction Limit: 30 transaction per day (this limit resets daily at 12:00 AM CST)

To view your completed and outstanding purchases, navigate to the Me section of the Venmo app.

To get started, launch the Venmo app, select the "Cards" menu, and then look for Venmo Debit Card.
