(The following is heavily speculated based on in-game events and information. Trigger warning for mention of child abuse and starvation.)
Michael was born an albino child to two very loving parents. Though they were informed that his albinism in no way impaired him and that he was a healthy child, Michael’s parents expressed anxiety about their son’s pale complexion and doted on him quite a bit, thinking that it was some type of sickness. As a result of their constant helicoptering, Michael was quite shy growing up. As he grew older, his parents became increasingly concerned about the changing of his hair color and Michael’s reclusive behavior. His family was very superstitious after all. Believing their son’s darkening hair (a result of his diet) and antisocial personality may have been the work of a demon taking over him, they brought him to local priest Father Garcia for guidance. Father Garcia took the boy, examined him, and decided to perform an exorcism upon him and observe the nature of his supposed possession. He stayed with Father Garcia and while initially Michael was compliant with all of the priest’s orders and observational tests, he began resisting the methods that were used upon his “demon” because they hurt him. He yearned to see his family but was denied the ability to do so, causing him to struggle more and leading the priest to believe that it was the work of a demon possessing him.
Michael was confined to a basement area over the course of three months, where his physical condition only worsened as time progressed. A lack of proper sustenance led to him growing malnourished and losing all the hair on his body, as well as developing an iron deficiency, leading to anemia. No exposure to sunlight caused his eyes to become even more sensitive to light than they already were due to his albinism, as well as develop rickets. The bow in his legs are so prominent that Michael is incapable of standing upright for more than short periods of time and has a very awkward gait when walking. The lack of vitamin D has also caused his spine to become malformed, and for this reason, his movement is made easier on all fours. After weeks of struggling and facing the abuse of the priest, Michael finally managed to break free from his bonds during one session and escaped. He fled into the woods where he was pursued by Father Garcia but ultimately managed to lose him altogether, now alone and wandering the woods in search of help.
Teenage Backstory:
Michael was born an albino child to two very loving parents. Though they were informed that his albinism in no way impaired him and that he was a healthy child, Michael’s parents expressed anxiety about their son’s pale complexion and doted on him quite a bit, thinking that it was some type of sickness. As a result of their constant helicoptering, Michael was quite shy growing up. As he grew older, his parents became increasingly concerned about the changing of his hair color and Michael’s reclusive behavior but ultimately refrained from acting on it.
On a visit to a family member’s house, Michael went with his family to spend time with a cousin of his. His cousin was very much into the occult and told Michael all about how he prayed to a pagan saint known as San la Muerte, or Saint Death. He encouraged Michael to try and pray to Saint Death with him and Michael did, observing how the figures moved around in response. Seeing such displays scared him and when they went home, Michael decided to visit his local church with his parents one Sunday. He asked to speak to a priest or the church so he could confess what he had done to someone, too scared to tell his parents. The priest listened as he recounted what happened and told him he could try praying to God and God would not make him feel afraid, and then informed him that he should tell his parents. He was nervous, but after a while, his parents began to notice how his guilt had made him more reclusive and grew suspicious to the point where they had to confront him. After coming clean to them finally, his mother and father were in hysterics and rushed him to the priest, asking Father Garcia to exorcise him for fear that a demon may have been possessing him. Too ashamed and too scared to speak out against them, Michael accepted his punishment.
The slight bow in his legs are prominent enough that Michael finds walking somewhat difficult and easily exhausting. Standing upright for more than short periods of time is painful for him and he stops to rest his aching bones often. The lack of vitamin D has also caused his spine to weaken, and for this reason, his movement is made easier hunched over (or on all fours). After weeks of struggling and facing the abuse of the priest, Michael finally managed to break free from his bonds during one session and escaped. He fled into the woods where he was pursued by Father Garcia but ultimately managed to lose him altogether, now alone and wandering the woods in search of help.
Due to his experiences with Father Garcia, Michael has a deep distrust for religious authority and is generally tries to avoid churches and people heavily associated with them. His general fear of strangers is rather intense now. On occasion, he does grow curious of people he hears coming by and tries to approach where he hears the sound of voices coming from. However, his eyesight has grown so poor that it requires him to charge up to people and get very close to them in order to properly make out their faces. As one can expect, this has not gone over well and he has been attacked by wild animals he mistook for people, or people who thought he was a wild animal on more than one occasion. This has only caused him to grow more solitary and cautious overtime.
Genuinely, Michael means no harm. He is a shy, soft-spoken person with not the foggiest idea of how to care for himself, stand up for himself, or be independent in any way on account of the fact he was coddled so much by his family. When he comes out of his shell, Michael is a very sweet and empathetic boy. He shares what he has with others and sincerely cares about them once he’s warmed up to them. He’s very playful and a bit mischievous, but above all, he’s a polite people-pleaser that likes making friends. He’s a goofball that aims to make people happy. His lack of independent thinking makes him a bit gullible and easy to push around at times, and he tries to avoid conflict at all costs, but he will stand up for a friend and come to them when they need him most. He is just a lost child who wants to go home but whose appearance has cost him any chance of receiving help for his predicament. He’s scared and lonely and desperately needs someone to take care of him and help him.
In the Touched By Darkness verse, Michael’s demon causes him to seek out people wandering close by so that he can maul and devour them for a darker purpose. It does have quite a bit of leverage over him and so to prevent himself from hurting people, Michael avoids coming close to any other humans he comes in close contact with as best he can.
STRENGTHS: Great agility and speed, easily comprehends thoughts and ideas, follows instructions and carries out tasks easily, great at reading music and playing by ear, understands mechanics, can innovate and improvise solutions if traditional ways don’t work, open-minded and great at mediating conflict
WEAKNESSES: Not physically strong, poor eyesight, does everything he can to avoid confrontation, not very sociable or socially adept, tires easily due to his medical conditions, sensitive to sunlight, has trouble thinking for himself and can be swayed the wrong way fairly easily, paranoid and hyper-vigilant of his surroundings at all times
HOBBIES: Listening to music, dancing, playing with legos and toy cars, playing catch, going on walks with people, exploring the woods, making friends, reading storybooks and learning new songs, and playing with his little maracas. (Teenage Michael enjoys going on long walks, playing guitar and piano, listening to music and dancing, occasionally singing [he used to be in a choir], sports, studying cars and mechanics, reading books, and occasionally writing his own songs.)
LIKES: Music, dancing, collecting Legos, hiking books, maracas, small furry animals, skateboarding, roller skating, spicy food
DISLIKES: Closed spaces, eating too much food, strangers, being chased, religious symbols
Big Boy Verse
A small alternate verse for Michael where he is 17 years old rather than 6. It can be used in conjunction with any other verse. In the main verse, it means he still travels with Amy, and they still have a sibling relationship.

Michael is not hostile unless his verse dictates it to be.
While Michael is mostly passive and will allow things to occur purely because he doesn’t want to start any trouble, he only has so much patience. If he’s badgered enough, he lash out to get someone to back off.
Michael is very sickly as a result of his caretaker’s neglect. He’s going to have difficulty getting around, keeping up, seeing things, and (as a child) he may cry a lot or throw tantrums to express things like hunger. He often shakes or suddenly drops without warning and crawls a lot.
Michael is very shy and paranoid as a result of what’s been done to him. He tends to run or hide from people (his child self at least) or is otherwise very quiet and reclusive. It takes time for him to get used to people and warm up enough to actually talk to them.
