Holly and her brother Roosevelt were born in Sydney, Australia. Her mother was a local Australian woman while her father was enlisted in the U.S. military and temporarily stationed at the embassy in the city. While both siblings were born out of wedlock, the couple remained on amicable terms and the children went back and forth between Australia and the western U.S. (Nevada and California specifically). Holly’s childhood with her father was spent practicing survival and hunting. She and her brother became skilled big game hunters with a penchant for predators. They learned early on how to preserve trophies and hunted their food, as well as sold the meat for a reasonable price to locals. Her mother nurtured an intense fascination with technology and the sciences. She worked as a biochemist and technician for a corporation focused on medical advancements, and this, combined with Holly’s love for video games, inspired her to look into engineering. She fell in love with the concept of taking things apart to study how they worked, then rebuilding them better and more efficiently.
However, when she was just eight years old, Holly’s mother passed away. Her death was sudden and ruled a suicide, though her father and her mother’s friends were incredibly skeptical about the autopsy report. They tried to open an investigation over foul play but the stigma against deerfolk and prey Mythics in general meant nothing ever came of it. All the same, Holly was devastated. She never got real closure over her mother’s death but she was thankfully supported by her brother and father. Life continued and she stayed focused on becoming a technician while picking up hunting as a side hustle. Her trips to Australia were overseen by one of her mother’s closest friends, who allowed her and her brother to stay during the summers and work part time and familiarize themselves with the area. When she turned fifteen, Holly came out to her father that she believed she was transgender. Incredibly distraught, he kicked her out after an intense argument. Following the event, Holly’s brother Roosevelt followed her out. He stuck with her, finding work and helping send her to therapy. It was a difficult time for Holly. She faced discrimination wherever she went and became very withdrawn and depressed. They finally found a therapist who was willing to help and who they could afford. She went on to go to therapy for three years before going on to transition. To help cover costs, she enlisted in the military. She also enrolled in college during this time.
Her career in the Mythic military army branch was marked as being an incredibly proud one. Holly was a keen-eyed sniper and was promoted to Sergeant Major over the course of her career. By the time she was 28 she had completed her transition (with the exception of permanently cutting her antlers, which she chose to keep), she had earned numerous technical degrees, certificates, and retired from the military after being stationed on the Australian coast for five years and being wounded on the job. She kept in close contact with several other people she met in the military, as they’d go on to be her lifelong friends.
Upon returning home, she reconnected with her brother who was then working for the Smithsonian National Museum to help preserve their specimens. Holly looked around for work and eventually found an easy way to make money being a software develope under the prolific Takamura Sisters and their underground Mythic assistance services. After making a decent bit of cash, Holly decided to stay on the east coast and open up the Fourteen Points Mechanic Shop. She worked on everything from cars to computers to cell phones and even began creating her own prototype robotics. When she was 33 she began feeling intense pains all over her body and was informed that the injury she received leading to her discharge, paired with the scar tissue from her transition surgeries, was causing severe complications. An underlying infection had been latent and was beginning to flare up. Without treatment and surgery, it would inevitably kill her. Holly went to numerous doctors, but few were qualified and those that were turned her away because she was a Mythic. Desperate and refusing to die out of spite, Holly spent the allotted two and half years of her life she was told she had left creating the C.A.S.I.N.O. AI and an assortment of robotic machines that were programmed to perform the operation and more. In the end, Holly replaced 90% of her bones with advanced synthetics composed of titanium and steel fitted with advanced shock absorption and electro-conductive technology, among other things. She altered all of her organs to essentially be a fusion of both metal and organic material. She made herself into a hyper-advanced cyborg with enhanced abilities and control over electricity. And all this with minimal scarring!
After her operation, Holly’s life returned to normal. She continues to run and manage her mechanic shop, continues to develop her technology, and routinely performs upgrades on herself. She runs a tight ship in her shop and continues to do hunting jobs. Her only assistant is CASINO, the AI that has now grown so advanced it can help her work, fight, stay organized, gather information, and provide helpful tips and reminders through her day. She plays video games, works out, and engages in combat sports like boxing, antler sparring, and wrestling. She also enjoys testing out the bombs and software she makes when she’s bored. Many have come to her looking to hire her as a white hat hacker, and she occasionally obliges them. Bigger fish are after her technology, but not often are they able to afford it.
The only thing bigger than Holly’s antlers and ears are her personality. She’s confident, proud, and fiercely independent. She’s happy to be herself and anyone who can’t handle her will be promptly kicked to the curb. She’s spent a lifetime trying to learn to love herself again and be comfortable in her own skin after everything that’s happened and now that she’s finally found her confidence and self-esteem, she’s not giving it up for anyone. She’s not egotistical by any means though, and she knows when to lay down her pride and be sincere and apologize. Additionally, she tends to be loud and fairly excitable by nature, but she’s also very friendly and does her best to provide a comforting and cheerful atmosphere for the people around her with her classic “southern hospitality”. She’s honest in her dealings and likes to leave doors open for her and the people around her, especially after the falling out she had with her father.
Holly has a tendency to be competitive even in situations where there doesn’t need to be competition. She tends to play a bit rough but will ease up if it’s commented on. Overall, Holly enjoys making people laugh and bringing them together. She enjoys being around others, she loves meeting new people, and she thrives off of social environments— whether it’s a barbecue, a pool party, or just running into someone on the street. Holly is a dedicated and loyal friend. When someone needs her, she’ll always be there. There’s always room for one more person at the table, she can always spare extra cash or supplies for people in need, and she does her best to give back to her community and help others. Additionally, Holly doesn’t like to have debts. She tries to pay people back as soon as she can, yet never expects anything in return for the things she does. However, as friendly as she can be, Holly is uncompromising when it comes to her morals. If she sees something is wrong, she will speak out about it. If she sees someone acting out of line, she will intervene. Holly will risk her life for complete strangers if it means correcting a wrong.
As a boss, Holly is strict but fair. She tries to be friendly with her coworkers and the pay and benefits she offers are more than satisfactory for most. She’s a patient teacher when it comes to showing them the ropes and is often forgiving over small mistakes. She does her best to keep things running smoothly and spearheads most projects and jobs, taking on the largest loads and breaking things up amongst people to get them done quickly and effectively. On her own, Holly tends to be a very private person. She works on her own passion projects, listens to music, and talks to her brother or CASINO. She tends to be a bit more melancholic and almost glum but rarely is she ever actually sad when she’s by herself. She tends to spend her downtime reflecting on herself and trying to improve, laughing at events, or thinking about her father and hoping he’s alright.
