If you want a direct, bolt-on replacement for Honda and Acura powertrains with a proven screw-thread mount design, choose VEHICODE Engine Coolant Temperature; if you need a complete wiring harness kit with integrated terminals for Dodge, Ram, Jeep, or Chrysler engines, choose SDYYDS Engine Coolant Temperature. Both units solve the critical problem of engine overheating by providing accurate thermal data to your vehicle's computer, but they are engineered for completely different ecosystems. The decision here isn't about which sensor is "better" in a vacuum; it is strictly about whether your truck or sedan requires the specific thread profile and connector style of the American muscle platform or the precise fitment required for the Japanese compact segment.
I know how frustrating it is to order a part that doesn't fit because you assumed compatibility based on a vague description. That is why I am focusing this comparison on the hard facts of design and application rather than marketing fluff. Whether you are prepping a vehicle for snow removal in the dead of winter or simply maintaining a daily driver, getting the temperature reading right is non-negotiable. A faulty sensor can cause the computer to run the engine too rich or too lean, leading to poor fuel economy, rough idling, or even catastrophic failure if the cooling system fails to engage the fans at the right moment. Let's break down exactly what each datasheet tells us about who should buy which unit.
• VEHICODE: Best for Honda/Acura owners needing a reliable screw-thread mount with a 2-pin plug; trade-off is that it does not include an extended wiring harness beyond the pigtail.
• SDYYDS: Best for Mopar/VW owners requiring a complete kit with a square-shaped plug-in connector and included blade-type terminals; trade-off is the lack of a screw-thread design in favor of bolt-on attachment.
• Pick VEHICODE if you drive a Civic, Accord, Pilot, or MDX and need a straightforward swap that matches the original equipment mounting style.
• Pick SDYYDS if you drive a Charger, Ram 1500, or Grand Cherokee and need a full sensor-and-harness solution ready to plug into the ECU without splicing.
The VEHICODE sensor is built specifically for the Japanese market giants, covering a massive range of vehicles from the compact Civic to the full-size Ridgeline. If you own a Honda or Acura, this unit speaks your language. The design features a screw-thread mount, which is the industry standard for these applications. This means you can start the installation by hand, threading it into the engine block before tightening it with a wrench to ensure a leak-resistant seal. It is a classic, robust design that prioritizes a secure physical connection over complex electrical additions.
What stands out most in the specifications is the sheer breadth of compatibility. We are talking about models ranging from 2007 all the way to 2024. That includes the CR-V, Odyssey, Pilot, and even the RDX. This longevity suggests the sensor is designed to handle the wear and tear of older platforms while still meeting the precision requirements of newer ones. The inclusion of a pigtail connector socket wire harness in the kit is a smart touch. It ensures you have the immediate connection point needed to interface with the car's cooling system without having to hunt for a separate adapter.

However, this product is not for everyone. If you drive a Dodge or a Jeep, this sensor will simply not work. The mounting geometry and electrical connector type are entirely different. Furthermore, if your vehicle requires a long extension cable or a specific harness length that differs from the provided pigtail, you might find yourself needing additional parts. But for the intended user—the Honda or Acura owner looking to replace a failed ECT sensor—this is a streamlined, no-frills solution that gets the job done efficiently. It is ideal for anyone who needs dependable temperature readings to keep their engine running smoothly during harsh weather conditions like snow removal, where consistent coolant management is vital for defrosting and cabin heating.
On the other side of the aisle, we have the SDYYDS unit, which targets the American muscle and utility market. This sensor is engineered for Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, and Volkswagen vehicles. The design philosophy here is slightly different, focusing on a "complete kit" approach. Instead of just the sensor itself, SDYYDS provides one coolant temperature sensor, one connector wiring harness, and two terminals. This is a significant advantage for users whose vehicles have damaged or missing connectors. You aren't just replacing a broken sensor; you are often replacing the entire electrical interface as well.
The physical design relies on a bolt-on attachment with a square-shaped plug-in connector featuring female housing and 2 blade-type male terminals. This configuration is distinct from the screw-thread style found in the Japanese equivalents. The square shape suggests a locking mechanism or a specific alignment requirement that prevents incorrect insertion, which is a safety feature worth noting. The inclusion of multiple reference part numbers—from 5149077AA to 68064995AA—indicates that this single SKU covers a wide array of part variations across different model years and engine configurations. This versatility makes it a strong candidate for fleet maintenance or mechanics who need one part to cover several common replacements.
The value proposition here extends beyond the hardware. The datasheet explicitly mentions a 1-year warranty and 24-hour online support. While many competitors offer similar warranties, the explicit mention of online support suggests a level of customer service backing that can be reassuring when dealing with complex electrical systems. This product is best suited for the owner of a Charger, Ram 1500, or Grand Cherokee who wants a turnkey solution. It removes the guesswork of whether the old harness is salvageable. If you are tackling heavy-duty tasks like snow removal with a Ram or a Jeep, having a sensor that comes with a fresh harness ensures that your electrical connection won't fail due to corrosion or age, keeping your engine monitoring system active when you need it most.

After analyzing the specifications, my recommendation depends entirely on the badge on your hood. If you drive a Honda or Acura, I would buy the VEHICODE Engine Coolant Temperature without hesitation. The screw-thread design is the correct method for these engines, and the kit provides exactly what is needed—a sensor and a pigtail—to get back on the road quickly. However, if you operate a Dodge, Jeep, or Ram, the SDYYDS Engine Coolant Temperature is the clear winner. The inclusion of the wiring harness and terminals is a necessity, not a luxury, given how often these connectors corrode or break.
For the specific use case of preparing a vehicle for snow removal, I would lean toward the SDYYDS unit if you are driving a truck like a Ram 1500. The reason is simple: the cold snaps associated with snow clearing put immense stress on electrical connections. Having a brand-new harness and terminals included in the kit eliminates a potential point of failure right when you need your engine to stay warm and your fans to cycle correctly. For a smaller sedan used in the same conditions, the VEHICODE unit is equally capable, provided you stick to its specific fitment list. Ultimately, choosing the wrong brand is a waste of time, so match the part to the manufacturer, not the other way around.
