ABOUT US

The Vernon Community Singers is a multigenerational, mixed choir of approximately 80 singers.

VCS is dedicated to singing a wide variety of musical styles, accompanied and a cappella, from classic choral literature to jazz, pop and folk songs, in a traditional mixed choral format.

Traditionally, the VCS performs twice a year in April and December, giving two performances (a Friday evening and Saturday afternoon) each season. Also, volunteers from the choir, both past and present, participate annually in the District of Coldstream Remembrance Day ceremony.

The choir was founded in 1993 by Paul Hunter. In 1996, Paul handed over the reins to Molly Boyd who led the choir for 17 years, until 2013. She then passed the torch to Terry Logan who directed for 11 years, until 2024, seeing the choir through its toughest couple of seasons during the Covid era. In the fall of 2024, Paul Hunter returned to take on the role of director once again.

The VCS is also a philanthropic organization, giving donations to local charities and bursaries to local students interested in pursuing and studying music in their futures.

The VCS is a non-auditioned SATB choir, open to all levels of singers. The choir welcomes all singers who wish to be part of a vibrant ensemble dedicated to furthering the joy of choral singing in our community.
