Tony “The Pony" Lewis is considered the most prolific ground gainer in Dayton Prep Football History. The First Team Parade Magazine All-American rushed for 3,023 yards over his three-year career and was the only player in Dayton City League history to have back-to-back 1,000 yard rushing seasons. In his first varsity game as a sophomore, he entered the game with five seconds remaining on the clock and ran 50-yards for a touchdown on his first carry. Tony was also the first Dayton City League player to rush for 300-yards in a game and turned in his career best performance of 376 yards against Roosevelt. His other historic career milestones includes rushing three-times for more than 300 yards and twice scoring 38 points in a single game. He was a unanimous two-time First Team All-City, two-time First Team All-Greater Dayton and two-time All-State selection. He was also named the 1965 Southwest Ohio District Class AA Player of the Year and was selected as an alternate for the Ohio North vs South All-Star Game in Canton, Ohio. Despite being selected as an alternate for the game he helped lead the South Team to a surprising victory over the heavily favored North Team and was named Offensive Back of the Game. He was drafted by the Buffalo Bills of the American Football League (AFL), played briefly for the Dayton Colts and later joined the United States Army.
