Clifford “Sput” Nelson was one of Patterson’s all-time great three-sport athletes. He earned seven varsity letters in Football, Basketball and Baseball while at Patterson. He was a stand-out offensive and defensive lineman for the Beavers Football Team and played a key support role along-side Anthony Corbitt in Basketball. He helped lead the Beavers to one of the most successful seasons in the school's history and on to the Class AAA Sectional Basketball Championship Game in his senior season. In Baseball, he was one of the top pitchers in the City League and led the Beavers to back-to-back City League Championships in his junior and senior seasons. The ace fastball pitcher enjoyed two incredible seasons going undefeated in his junior season and (7-1) as a senior. Clifford earned All-City honors for three straight seasons and had one of the lowest ERAs (.084) in the area. He attended Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida for one year, but had his baseball career cut short due to a shoulder injury. He returned to Dayton and earned a Business Management Degree from Wilberforce University and for the past sixteen years have owned and operated his Lawn Care Service (Sideline Property Management).
