Call for postdocs 2018

Postdoc position 1 - Neural network approaches to biomolecular modelling

Project: Deep neural networks (DNN’s) are an increasingly common and powerful instrument to rationalise the properties and behaviour of physical systems. A key element of these methods is the preprocessing of the information fed into the DNN. The project mainly involves the development and application of DNN’s to the characterisation and modelling of biomolecules. Further research activity comprises atomistic and coarse-grained MD simulations of biomolecules and method development.

Your profile: Candidates are invited to apply who have a PhD degree in one of the following fields (preferred): Physics, Chemistry, Computational Biology; also: Applied or Numerical Mathematics, Software Engineering, Computer Science. A solid background in statistical mechanics and programming is required, while previous experience with machine learning, DNN’s, computer simulations, soft and biological matter modelling are taken in high regard. An excellent knowledge of the English language is a fundamental prerequisite.

Postdoc position 2 - Development of high performance modelling and simulation software

Project: A key aspect of frontier research in physics and related areas is the development and distribution of high-performance, high-quality software. Being algorithmic and computational approaches at the heart of the VARIAMOLS project, an expert scientist is sought who will actively contribute to the research projects particularly on software-related aspects. Her/his role will involve, but will not be limited to, the definition of the optimal algorithmic strategies to implement the methods developed in the project in efficient, easy-to-use, easy-to-modify programs. These will include molecular dynamics simulation, coarse-grained modelling, machine learning techniques, and HPC. The postdoc will also support the group in the usage of a 1200 CPU cores cluster fully devoted to the research activities of the VARIAMOLS project.

Our offer

We offer a fully funded, 24 months postdoc fellowship for each of the two aforementioned positions, starting in January 2019. The net salary is of 2.000 €/month.

We actively seek to strengthen the role and contribution of women in STEM. We therefore explicitly encourage women to apply.

How to apply

Applications to both positions are performed completely online via the following links:

Candidates will be selected through an evaluation of titles (CV, publications, reference letters, etc.) and, possibly but not necessarily, an oral examination (to be done via Skype if required).

Expressions of interest can be communicated by filling the form available at this page.

PLEASE NOTE: in order to apply you need a UniTN account.
