I absolutely do subscribe to the Apple Music service, (wouldn't be without it for one minute,) but have found that if I go to the search area, then find an album through that means to listen to, and really it doesn't even have to be through search, it could be anywhere as long as I find an album or playlist to play. Anyway, if I then start listening, as soon as the album finishes, my phone keeps playing music by other artists that it things are similar. Sometimes this could be kind of cool, but 95 percent of the time, this is extremely annoying! I want to know when an album is finished without having to pick up my phone, and look at the now playing screen to see if I'm still listening to the same content I initially elected to play.

Great example: I was earlier listening to an album by Vince Gill. I'm sort of familiar with his stuff, but not enough to know when that album ended. So it went on playing other random stuff by him after finishing the album. I hadf no way though of knowing the album was over, and now, it's just playing similar songs that just so happen to also be by him in this case.

What I'm looking for ultimately is the last song of the album or playlist to end, then things just totally stop and go silent. If I then want to play something else, so be it. If I don't though, then for God sake, don't!

Guys, I'm so sorry! After I did a bit more poking around the Music app, I figured it out. I didn't realize that on the now playing screen, in the bottom right corner there's an icon to get to your queue of upcoming tracks, or turn on repeat/shuffle, etc. I noticed the icon was labeled as auto-play on. So, I figured, Hmm! I went in there, and sure enough. I was there able to turn that dad gum thing off. Again, don't get me wrong here. I'm not meaning to imply this isn't a nice feature, but for someone like me who's so used to just manually doing things, having that off feels much more like what I'm used to.

Now my question is, since that's off, will it now stay off if I browse to play something else? I guess only time will tell. Also, I wonder if that setting now will carry over to my smart speakers like my Sonos, etc. Again, I guess only time will tell.

Bring up the now playing screen in the music app and tap "playing next" in the bottom right corner. This will bring up a screen with additional controls and a cue of songs to play next that you can adjust. At the top of the screen are shuffle and repeat buttons. To the right of the shuffle button is an autoplay button, which is what you want to turn off.

Hi! This feature of continuing music when an album or playlist finishes can definitely be turned off in Apple Music: I also prefer silence after listening to either of those, so I did this ages ago. While playing any song in Apple Music, double-tap its title in the mini player near the bottom of the screen. In the Now Playing screen which opens at this point, there are toggle buttons for Shuffle, Repeat and Auto-Play: when Auto-Play is switched off, no extra tracks will be played after the end of albums and playlists. I hope this helps!

Great. I figured it would, but just wanted to check to make sure that nothing sneaky would crop up later. I guess then, if I do! want to hear similar songs I may have never heard and want to discover, that's where I'd just temporarily turn that toggle back on? Or actually, even with that off, is there a way I can get Siri to override the fact I've got that disabled, and still play me similar songs? I'd suspect that probably the easiest thing to do if I decide I want to do that would just be turning it back on.

So I've noticed when a Spotify song is on and I go to start a YouTube video the music doesn't stop playing and I have the video and song playing at the same time. How do I fix this or is this some kind of bug? It didn't happen after an upgrade as I haven't done one in like a month and this only started about 2 days ago

What I discovered when playing "Times Radio" via TuneIn on my home mini was that the "Hey Google, Stop" command only puts the media into a Paused mode rather than cancelling it completely as you would expect.

For me, I encountered issues where "stop" doesn't stop the playback totally. If you look into the Google Home app, the music is simply paused and needs to be manually stopped to totally disconnect. I have had feedback on this problem before but it seems like the software team ignored the problem.

So I went on line and asked for synonyms for Stop. Printed the list and worked my way through it.

Some worked, some didn't.

After each successful stop, I tried the usual command. The first few, no change "Stop" didn't work.

However after one of them, I'm sorry I can't remeber which one, "Stop" worked as expected.

Thanks @Stevemedia. Not sure it's the same problem as my device does respond to "stop". However, in that response it is just pausing the media and then seems to unpause it spontaneously after about 5 minutes. My guess is that as I'm streaming radio from the Internet, I expect the device's buffer gets full which forces the restart.

Here's me 4 months after your comment & 1 out of 5 devices (4 mini) does this exact thing. I say "stop playing music" (angrily too lol) & randomly throughout the day it will just resume! I've yelled upstairs to my son thinking it was him & never was. The weirdest part is the fact its just 1 device. However, it is the main "mini" I use for music, the 2nd is Lenova Smart Display & doesn't do this.

My Google Home minis running cast firmware 1.56.313652 both exhibit this issue i.e. when I say "Play Times Radio" and then "Stop" they Pause the media. The playing resumes spontaneously after approximately 5 minutes.

Have tried those steps, but unlike @Stevemedia I don't have any issue with the device recognising the "Stop" command. It's just that it pauses the media playing when I use that command instead of cancelling it.

Prior to about a week ago, the "Stop" command WOULD cancel the playback completely. My Lenovo Google display DOES cancel the playback with the same "Stop" command, so it suggests that different versions of google home software do different things for the same command. I think the bug is in the software now being deployed on the Google minis.

I have attached 6 screen prints but can't seem to upload videos (Mp4s under 5MB. When I drag/drop I get "You do not have permission to upload video."), however the 2 missing videos "2 - Telling Google to stop.mp4" and "5 - Telling Google to Stop again.mp4" just show me saying "Hey Google, Stop" each time and the Google Home Mini going silent.

Mine does the same thing. It started a few months ago, I have to go in the app and manually stop it from playing. I have the Big Google Speaker for a few years now, and it has never done this before, until a few months ago. I thought I was tripping, glad to see this is an ongoing issue with others.

That is exactly what is happening. I was sitting in my office and told it to stop after listening to a tune in station for my work day. After about 30 minutes, it started playing again while I was sitting here with nothing going on. It was playing the ad that Tune In forces into the stream. This has been happening to me for about a week, ever since my preferred radio station had to fix their tune in stream, and these weird ads from tune in started interrupting my music. It will turn speakers back on in the middle of the night, extremely annoying.

We appreciate you sharing some info about this. Right now, we'd like to check further what's causing this to happen. By the way, have you already tested it using a different music service instead of using TuneIn? Are they showing the same behavior?

I have this problem on when using the TuneIn app on my phone as well as my 2 home minis. With my phone app I physically press the stop icon and don't close the app. In about 30 minutes it resumes playing. My home minis resumed playing on their own a couple of months ago and then they worked properly until this weekend. One mini resumed playing after being told to stop playing a radio station from TuneIn and the other resumed after my sleep timer from the TuneIn app on my phone stopped the radio station I was casting to it

Been having the same issue as everyone else here. Same FW version as previous people. Get's frustrating when you stop music when you leave the room to go to bed and the music restarts.

I don't think this is an issue with this many people setting / wifi as has been suggested here and other threads. This needs to be fixed on the Google, Stop and Pause are two different things, also just to comment why would Pause be only for 5 minutes, if I pause something it should stay paused till I say resume. If I pause to take a phone call I don't want the music to start again while I am still on the phone...save that one for another thread...

I am having the exact same issue with my mini devices. Telling them 'stop' merely pauses them and then they restart. I agree - stop should mean stop, and pause should mean pause - not start again on it's own with no imput.

I recently updated to the latest version of launchbox and while in big box now when I select a game the video preview for said games music won't stop playing on loop. The only way to stop it is not just back out the game but to back out of big box completely so atm it's completely unplayable as in game I hear the gameplay sounds but also the video preview sounds on loop.

... when I browse or play in LB the other viewed preview videos sound keep looping, and it wont even stop before 5 seconds after LB is closed, it keeps looping, 5 seconds when viewing just Windows Desktop.

Just so I'm clear are you all seeing this in LaunchBox or Big Box?

What video playback engine are you using? VLC or Windows Media Player?

If this is in LaunchBox, do you have auto-play videos turned on or off? (Found in view menu)

Was reading (in LB listview Arcade Platform) what the new achivements in Asteroids (rev4) was, the video played the 2 minutes I was reading, then I pressed RetroScore and closed Retroscore again. Then I browsed to Amidar and the Asteroids music looped, and continued on top of amidar video, till 5 secs after I closed LB - and I did a fumble, did not press record on my phone ? ff782bc1db
