Vanessa S. Wu
Future Mechanical & Aerospace Engineer | Challenge-Seeker | Rocketry Enthusiast
Hi, I'm Vanessa
When I first started college at the University of Florida in 2015, I remember picking mechanical engineering as a major because I just couldn't figure out what to do with myself, but I knew I loved to design and build something. It took about two years of classes and seven seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation to figure out what I truly want to do with my life.
As crazy as it sounds, my dream job is to work aboard a galaxy-class starship because I want to be absolutely devoted to space exploration or as Gene Roddenberry puts it,
"to explore strange new worlds; to seek out new life and new civilization; to boldly go where no one has gone before."
A future of space-faring, alien-fighting adventures seems just a bit far-fetched for humanity right now, but I know that this is not an unattainable feat. I aspire to work toward the goal of space exploration so that one day we can live beyond this pale blue dot. I believe once we, as a species, realize how great the universe truly is, all the tiny divisions and conflicts that plague the world will disappear for good.
In the past few years, I have developed a staunch devotion to the field of aerospace engineering. Whether it be my project of constructing a personal high-powered rocket or my involvement in the my university's Rocket Team, I strive everyday to apply the values I learn in the classroom to real-life aerospace projects. In the future, I plan to pursue a career in aerospace engineering for a company or organization that shares the same views on space and the future of humanity. For now, I'll continue to shoot for the stars.
