MindSpar Ideathon

A unique Ideathon competition showcasing critical thinking, innovation and creativity of high school, undergraduate and postgraduate students in Delhi-NCR region

MindSpar is a pioneering annual event held by the Sri Venkateswara College under the aegis of “Catalysis” the Biochemical society of the college. It was conceived and initiated with a vision to promote creativity and out-of-the-box thinking amongst students. In 2018, MindSpar was launched with the sole objective of empowering young minds to come up with innovative ideas as solutions for pressing societal problems. After a phenomenal success amongst students and on popular demand, we returned with MindSpar 2.0 in 2019.

Convenor: Dr. Vandana Malhotra

Vision Statement

A program like MindSpar that motivates and inspires the youth of today to come up with innovative technology or biotechnology based solutions for SDGs is a powerful tool that promises to bring about positive changes in our society. The program was launched to create an entrepreneurial mindset and work readiness in the youth of today, such that they are problem solvers and job providers rather than just being job seekers. Such an endeavor equips students with 21st century employability skills. The students get a first hand experience at business start-up and presentation skills. Most importantly, students apply their acquired skills to obtain solutions to real life problems outside the classroom making them responsible for their future.

In keeping with the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development, the themes for MindSpar 2.0 have been taken from the Global Goals of Sustainable Development created by UN and adopted by 170 countries, with India being one of them. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collection of 17 global goals set by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015 for the year 2030. The Goals have been adopted to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda. In other words, the SDGs are a blueprint for ensuring a better future for all.

What is Sustainable Development ? "Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." The concept of sustainable development can be interpreted in many different ways, but at its core it is an approach to development that looks to balance different, and often competing, needs against an awareness of the environmental, social and economic limitations we face as a society.

Why Sustainable Development ? All too often, development is driven by one particular need, without fully considering the wider or future impacts. We are already seeing the damage this kind of approach can cause, from large-scale financial crises caused by irresponsible banking, to changes in global climate resulting from our dependence on fossil fuel-based energy sources. The longer we pursue unsustainable development, the more frequent and severe its consequences are likely to become, which is why we need to take action now !
