The Traveler provides cross-platform compatibility with Mac OS X (10.2.3 or higher), Windows Me/2000/XP and all of your favorite audio software and host-based effects via WDM/ASIO/Core Audio drivers. Or you can use the included AudioDesk workstation software for Macintosh, with 24-bit recording/editing and 32-bit mixing/processing/mastering.

Next, think about any changes you've made to the system since it was last working OK. New software, updated drivers, replaced hardware components. Run LatencyMon to try and pinpoint a driver that's too greedy. Try disabling the network and see if that makes a difference. Try the Why So Slow utility for grins. It's from Resplendence, the same folks that gave us LatencyMon.

Reloaded the software, followed all of your suggestions- and still no Motu action. Then I discovered through "About this Mac > System Report > Applications" that all the Motu drivers and software (CueMix, etc) are 32 bit applications. They're the only ones on my machine that won't run. Funny- the System Report > Hardware > USB can actually see the attached devices- but the software can't talk to them.

I completely uninstalled the drivers then installed the latest drivers from MOTU and it's working ok. I did a cold boot after I uninstalled the drivers and I didn't have the MOTU connected when I installed the new drivers.

Wait a second - exactly when do you hear these crackles? Is it only when using Cantabile, or is it when or soon after using Windows playback, like YouTube videos or other audio? I have an issue that crops up which seems related to a bug in the WASAPI drivers in all Windows boxes when I have the Ultralite or the 828 set up as my default Windows audio device.

My experience with MOTU is not that good. I used the MicroBook IIc for half a year. It has a lot of functions for less money. Very attractive interface.

But the original MOTU drivers suck. I was never able to use them because of very bad latencies and cracks / pops, etc. I used it with ASIO4All. It seemed to work fine, but I still had some problems with pops und cracks which were not reproducible. Sometimes the computer ran fine for several hours and than suddenly some big crackles occur.

Optimized drivers for both Mac and PC deliver ultra-low latency performance. With a high-performance DAW such as Digital Performer, the UltraLite-mk5 delivers an astonishing round trip latency (RTL) of 2.4 ms (milliseconds) over USB (at 96 kHz with a 32-sample host buffer).

Once you have downloaded your new driver, you'll need to install it. In Windows, use a built-in utility called Device Manager, which allows you to see all of the devices recognized by your system, and the drivers associated with them.

Have a chance to grab one for real cheap including the PCI-424 card. But is it for me ?

For recording I use a lot of keyboards, my bass, and occasional elect guitar tracking.

Along with a small amount of outboard reverb / delay units.

Cubase 5 PC based system.

So will I be able to plug right into it with these instruments or is an 8 preamp interface meeting more my requirements.

Under $ 200 for the unit sounds pretty good and apparently drivers are available for Win 7.

The 828mk3 provides cross-platform compatibility with Mac and Windows and all of your favorite audio software and host-based effects via WDM/ASIO/Core Audio drivers. Or you can use the included AudioDesk workstation software for Mac, with 24-bit recording/editing and 32-bit mixing/processing/mastering. 589ccfa754
