The converter covers the period 1860 to 2022. However, the year 1914 has been removed due to incomplete data. The current year is not included, because the data for the whole year are known only after the end of the year.

The default source is the European Central Bank. This is the ECB historical rates for 42 currencies against the Euro since 1999.It can be downloaded here: eurofxref-hist.zip.The converter can use different sources as long as the format is the same.

Note that the currency converter does not query the API in real time, to avoid the overhead of the HTTP request. It uses embedded data in the library, which might not be up to date.If you need the latest data, please refer to the data section.

EF Core comes with built-in logic for snapshotting and comparing most standard types used in databases, so users don't usually need to worry about this topic. However, when a property is mapped through a value converter, EF Core needs to perform comparison on arbitrary user types, which may be complex. By default, EF Core uses the default equality comparison defined by types (e.g. the Equals method); for snapshotting, value types are copied to produce the snapshot, while for reference types no copying occurs, and the same instance is used as the snapshot.

It is recommended that you use immutable types (classes or structs) with value converters when possible. This is usually more efficient and has cleaner semantics than using a mutable type. Value converters and comparers are constructed using expressions rather than simple delegates. This is because EF Core inserts these expressions into a much more complex expression tree that is then compiled into an entity shaper delegate. Conceptually, this is similar to compiler inlining.
