DOCUMENTARY ABOUT THE

NOKIA

ORIGIN :

From its beginning in 1865 as a single paper mill operation, Nokia has found and nurtured success in several sectors over the years, including cable, mobile devices, paper products, rubber boots and tires, and telecommunications infrastructure equipment.

Nokia is a Finnish company, founded in 1865. Nokia's headquarters are in Espoo, Uusimaa, in the greater Helsinki metropolitan area. Most of Nokia phones are made in Finland but not all though. Nokia devices are made everywhere; Hong Kong, Mexico, China, Brazil, Germany, and more.

The company that eventually became Nokia was founded in southern Finland as a pulp mill company in 1865. Over the decades it expanded into then-emerging industries such as electrical power generation and manufacturing telephones. In the 1960s, Nokia was a conglomerate selling everything from toilet paper to car tires.Apr 27, 2016.

TIMELINE :

The name 'Nokia' is derived from the river Nokianvirta, on the banks of which the company was established. Nokianvirta itself was named after an old Finnish word, which originally meant sable.

The well-known 'Nokia tune', which was the most commonly known indentifying feature of the phone is said to be based on 'Gran Vals', a 19th century guitar work of a Spanish musician, Francisco Tarrega. This work was well known as the Nokia tune, since people found the original name hard to remember. Around 1998, Nokia also renamed the tune as the 'Nokia tune' in their phones.

According to the Fortune list 2006 survey, Nokia was the 20th most Admirable company in the World.

The world's first commercial GSM call was made in 1991 in Helsinki over a Nokia-supplied network, by Prime Minister of Finland Harri Holkeri, using a Nokia phone.

It is popularly believed that the 'Special' tone available in Nokia phones, as a SMS tone, is actually Morse code for SMS. The 'Ascending' SMS tone is Morse code for 'Connecting People', which is Nokia's tagline.

The world's first satellite call was made in 1994, using a Nokia GSM handset.

WHEN WAS NOKIA SOLD :

On 18 May 2016, Microsoft Mobile sold its Nokia-branded feature phone business to HMD Global, a new company founded by former Nokia executive Jean-Francois Baril, and an associated factory in Vietnam to Foxconn's FIH Mobile subsidiary.
