This Privacy Policy applies to the utmbHealthyBrain mobile application (the “App”), a joint project developed by the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in the United States (representing academia) and the Fo Guang Shan International Buddhist Order (representing charity).
We do not collect, store, use, share, or transmit any personal information or health data of any kind.
The App operates entirely offline, requires no internet connection, and does not require account registration.
1. Data Types Accessed and/or Collected
The App may request access to Health and Fitness Data (such as data available through Health Connect or other Android health-related permissions, including but not limited to step count, heart rate, sleep, or other health indicators) solely to provide the App’s core functionality related to brain health.
Access Method: These data are accessed only after the user explicitly grants permission. All reading, calculation, and display occur locally on the user’s device on a temporary basis.
Collection: The App does not collect any health or fitness data. No data is recorded, stored persistently, or saved within the App.
Purpose/Use: Accessed health and fitness data are used exclusively for temporary, on-device calculations or display to help users understand brain health-related information. Once the session ends, the data is not retained.
Other Data: The App does not access or collect any personally identifiable information (PII), including name, email address, phone number, device identifiers, IP address, location, contacts, photos, or any other personal data.
The App contains no advertising, no analytics, no tracking, no cookies, no crash reporting, and no third-party services that collect or transmit data.
2. Data Storage, Retention, and Deletion
Storage and Retention: The App does not store any user data or health data. Any temporarily accessed health and fitness data exists only in the device’s memory during active use and is automatically cleared afterward. We retain no data beyond the duration of the current session.
Deletion: Because we do not store any data, no additional deletion process within our systems is required. Users can remove any temporary data or reset the App by:
Clearing the App’s cache or data through the device settings (Settings > Apps > utmbHealthyBrain > Storage > Clear Cache / Clear Data).
Uninstalling the App entirely, which removes all locally stored temporary data.
Any device-level backup (e.g., Google Backup) is controlled solely by the user and the device operating system. We have no access to or control over such backups.
3. Data Sharing and Transmission
The App does not share, upload, sync, or transmit any data to any servers, to UTMB, to Fo Guang Shan International Buddhist Order, or to any third parties (except for optional device-level backups initiated and controlled by the user).
4. Security
Since we collect, store, or transmit zero user data, there are no user data security concerns on our side. We recommend that users secure their device using standard protections such as passcode, biometrics, and keeping the operating system updated.
5. Children’s Privacy
The App is not directed at children and does not knowingly access or collect any data from children.
6. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted within the App or on any future official website. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
