Dallas Fire and Rescue

Lt. Ronald Vaughn, has been a Lieutenant for the Dallas Fire rescue for 24 years and has served as the departments GIS Lieutenant for Four years. His duties include providing Mapping Solutions for resource management, Pre- Incident Planning, Data Analysis and Statistical Information for Fire Department personnel.

He has been an advocate for GIS by speaking at various Conferences. During his tenure at Dallas Fire Rescue he has won the departments Paramedic of the Year award and the departments Staff Officer of the Year Award.

Dr. Guangchun



Dr. Cheng received PH.D in Computer Science and Engineering from UNT with his research focused on spatio-temporal analysis of human actions in videos. He currently works as a Senior Software Engineer on Google Maps photo search which collects, and models imagery in Google Street View panoramas.

In this talk “Exploring the World with Google Geo Imagery,” with inform listeners on the research and engineering on geo-tagged photos that happen in search queries to Google of Google Maps

Dallas Morning News

Ariana Giorgi is a Senior Computational Journalist at the Dallas Morning News where she analyzes large data sets and writes about the stories she finds. She graduated from Columbia University with a dual masters in computer science and journalism and earned her bachelor's in math and physics at Lafayette College in Pennsylvania. Her talk will consist of how GIS is used in the field of Journalism.

UT Permian Basin

Dr. Valcik attended Plano East, Collin College, and UT-Dallas receiving multiple degrees in Political Science and Public Affairs. Currently, Dr. Valcik is the Director of Instituional Research and Business Intelligence at the UT-Permian Basin. He has also authored or edited 16 books as well as 26 chapters and articles in public administration, GIS, homeland security, and emergency management.
