Booth was the first WAVE authorized to wear a Boatswain's Pipe and was piped by President Franklin D. Roosevelt aboard Hunter just before his last election,plus a number of Admirals. She played in the Drum and Bugle Corps also at Hunter and was present aboard LCI 597 & USS Missouri for their commissionings. Her duty assignment after Hunter in 1945 was US NAS KANEOHE BAY, T.H.(via Great Lakes and Naval Air Facility, Columbus,Ohio) as supervisor of enlisted personnel & Welfare & Recreation. She was discharged December 1945, and enlisted in the Reserves in April 1947.She completed her college degree and received a direct commission as Ensign in May 1949. Martha was recalled to active duty in May 1951 and Assigned to Great Lakes RTC/W as a Personnel & Scheduling Officer. She coached RTC ship's Company softball team to Great Lakes championship in 1951. Booth transferred with all of Recruit Training Command (WAVES) to USNTC Bainbridge, Maryland with duty as Battalion Commander, then as Officer-in-Charge of Physical Training for WAVE Recruits. She marched with recruit Battalion in Pres. Eisenhower's Inaugural parade. Martha coached the ships company championship basketball team in 1953 and returned to inactive duty on May 29 of that year. Her last rank was Lieutenant. She retired and got married to Lieutenant Commander Erland C. Hoefler in 1955 and adopted two children, the couple have one grandchild. She taught physical education in Ohio and from 1968 to 1977 directed a Precision Drill Dance Team for Kenston High School, which is located in northeast Ohio. Booth also refereed basketball for 27 yrs.& taught swimming for 31yrs. lived near Chagren Falls,Ohio for 26yrs. before moving to Seabrook Island, S.C.
