After serving 19 and a half months on the Cutter Vigilant (154) I had the opportunity to attend Fire Control School. I left my ship in New Orleans, arriving in Washington D.C. by train the next day after FDR's death. I think this would have been April 1945? Instructors were all Navy. The class were all USCG from numerous places. It's been too long ago, I only wish I could remember more names I was scheduled to catch a troop transport ship in Alameda, CA. The war ended and my orders were cancelled. I was stationed at Cape May Naval Air Station, Barnaget Bay, N.J . Also made one run on a P.T. boat to Baltimore, MD. and a run on an army reserve boat to Savanna, GA. where it was decommissioned. I was honorably discharged in St. Louis, Mo. Feb. 2, 1946.
